ANDREW HOSPITAL
I. Introduction
Physical Plant Services is budgeted to address only routine operation and maintenance
requirements of the Hospital. This definition is strictly limited to work required to operate and
maintain existing facilities, utility systems, grounds to provide support for specific Department.
II. Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to ensure that laboratory facilities are in good working condition and
support the overall laboratory and patient care. St. Andrew Hospital, Laboratory Department
requires good working facilities as a component of the good service delivery to patients, So St.
Andrew Laboratory Department has a program for proper maintenance and monitoring of
physical plant.
Laboratory Facilities and Physical Plant must be maintained to promote appropriate laboratory
care and use. The Laboratory Manager or the Chief Medical Technologist is responsible for
submitting and following up on work orders to Facilities Management for repairs and
maintenance.
IV. Definition
Work order request form- This request form is to be filled out by the staff submitting the work
request. It includes all the job details field technicians need to get the task done quickly and
accurately.
V. Procedure
1. The Chief Medical Technologist can submit a work order to Maintenance Department
through the Work Order Form (see Appendix).
2. The work order form will then be approved by the Maintenance Department and by the
Medical Director for budget approval and allocation.
3. Ask the Technician/ Maintenance to sign the Laboratory Department Maintenance
Checklist.
A. STRUCTURAL SYSTEM
There will be a regular inspection of the structural system of each working area of the
laboratory.
The maintenance activities performed should be properly documented.
D. Fire
An annual inspection conducted by the Bureau of Fire Protection to ensure that building
meet the on-fire safety.
The activities are documented, and a certificate is given for documentation.
E. Plumbing
Checking of plumbing system, not only for water system this including plumbing system
for water and human waste. A quarterly inspection for leaks and clogs. Every 3 years for
human waste inspection.
C. INFESTATION
A. PEST CONTROL
Conduct an annual inspection of closet , drawers, under sink and woods for sign of
infestation.
Fumigate at least twice a year for the treatment and control of pest and other insect.
