    RECENT CRITERIA BY ADA (AMERICAN DIABETES ASSOCIATION) FOR DIAGNOSIS OF DIABETES


    MELLITUS Diabetes : Any one of the below mentioned is diagnostic of diabetes.
    1. FBS : more than or equal to 126 mg% on atleast 2 occasion.
    2. RBS : more than or equal to 200 mg% (with polyuria, polyphagia, polydyspia, unexplained weight loss).
    3. 2 hrs. after ingestion of 75 gm glucose more than or equal to 200 mg%
    Impaired Glucose Tolerance :
    1. FBS : 110 - 126mg %
    2. 2 hrs. after ingestion of 75 gm glucose : 140 - 200 mg%

    1. 10 to 12 hrs complete fasting is must for FBS (Patient can take water).
    2. Exception to above criteria is the diagnosis of Gestational (Pregnancy) diabetes.
    3. Blood sugar is affected by fasting, food intake, Excercise, drugs etc.
