What are the main factors affecting the poor academic performance of the students of Poblacion
High School?

2.) WHAT DO YOU WANT TO FIND OUT IN THE STUDY?

In this study, I want to find out what are the main factors affecting the poor academic performance
of the students of Poblacion High School. I am really wondering why the students isn’t reaching their
full potential. Because I believe their performance don’t match their real capabilities.

3.) SPECIFIC QUESTIONS

- How does the poor academic performance of the student of Poblacion High School affect the
performance rating of the school?
- How is the experience of the students related to their poor academic performance?

4.) RESEARCH DESIGN

In this research, I will choose the experimental research design. Since I am using agression and
correlation analysis both can be applied to either observational data or a statistically designed
experiment.

5.) THEORITICAL FRAMEWORK

The study is anchored on the theory of Educational Productivity by Herbert J. Walberg. The
theory tackles about the influences on learning that affects the academic performance of a student. It is
an exploration of academic achievement wherein Walberg used a variety of methods on how to identify
the factors that affects the academic performance of a student that is why it is the appropriate
framework for my study.

 The variables are reflected with different representation. In the first three variables (ability,
motivation, and age) reflect characteristics of the student. The fourth and fifth variables reflect
instruction (quantity and quality), and the final four variables (classroom climate, home environment,
peer group, and exposure to media) represent aspects of the psychological environment . These
variables have a certain effect that might cause problems with the academic performance of students if
it will not be properly guided. Giving importance with a certain variable can mean a big impact with the
student’s academic performance.

7.) THE NEXT STEP

After gathering the needed data, the next thing to do is to analyze the data using the regression
analysis and correlation as part of the methodology.

8.) SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The result of the study will be a great benefit to the following:

School

The result of the study will increase the rating of the school in its performance review and regain
its reputation.

Teacher

It will help the teachers identify the reason to the problem and create strategies that they are
going to use in order to improve the academic performance of their students.

Parents

They will become aware on their role as parents in the performance of their students at school
and they will be able to provide needed support in their child.

Students

They will be able to improve their academic performance as well as their cognitive, affective,
and behavioral ability and become confident in every competition in which they are going compete.

9.) STATISTICAL TREATMENT

Statistical Techniques includes regression analysis and correlation were used as a methodology.
Regression analysis is a common technique in research which helps the analyst understand the
relationship of independent variables to a dependent variable. More specifically it focuses on how the
dependent variable changes in relation to changes in independent variables. In my research the
regression model is tested by new integration of different variables namely (ability, motivation, and age)
reflect characteristics of the student, (quantity and quality) reflect instruction, and (classroom climate,
home environment, peer group, and exposure to media) represent aspects of the psychological
environment.
10.) THE NEED FOR REVIEW OF RELATED STUDIES

YES! Review of Related Literature is important for obtaining an overview to the current
knowledge on the topic which is the poor academic performance of the students in Salvacion
High School. This will provide me a framework in which is an essential part of my research.
