Good morning, class. I’m aware that you all have very tight schedules.

Let me just
start by introducing myself. My name is Lê Thị Phương Quỳnh. Glen Cathey said
“Sourcing and finding people is the most important. You can’t recruit, message, or
network with someone you haven’t found.” Indeed, as he said on this day to be
able to recruit employees, businesses will call them and interview them directly.
And that's also the topic I want to talk about today “ Nowadays, some employers
think that formal academic qualifications are more important than life experience
or personal qualities when they look for new employees”. In my opinion, a new
employee's academic qualifications will be more trusted by employers than an
employee with only life experience or personal qualities. My talk will be in three
parts. In the first part, I will start with the importance of formal academic
qualifications. Then in the second part, I will continue with the value of formal
academic brings. Finally, I will end with a recommendation drawn from
affirmations. My talk should take about 8 minutes. I plan to keep some time for
questions after the presentation.
- Let’s now move on to the importance of formal academic qualifications.
+ Nowadays, academic degrees are considered a tool to measure the level of
knowledge that students are capable of. When applying for a job, we need to
submit documents, such as a job application, resume, and academic record.
The above documents provide employers with information about the
knowledge, skills, and competencies that candidates have. Besides the above
documents, the recruiter has no way to check whether the above candidates
have life experience and personal qualities or not.
+ For exemple, according to a 2017 Harvard Business School study,
between 2007 and 2010, job postings listing a bachelor’s degree requirement
as a condition of employment rose by 10%. The same study also found that
in nine out of 10 job postings that requested a bachelor’s degree.

- So now we come to the next point, which is the value of formal academic
brings.
+ To get a good degree at a university, students need to pass many exams,
focus on cultivating knowledge and participate in practical training courses.
From there, this knowledge ensures that the candidate has the expertise that
employers are looking for and this is absolutely positive for this
development, candidates with high academic degrees have more job
opportunities or easier getting promoted than those with only life skills or
personal qualities. For example, In 2017, the jobless rate among those with
at least a bachelor’s degree stood at 2.5%, while the rate for high school
graduates was 5.3%.
+ At the same time, it can be seen that employees with academic degrees
will help businesses maximize profits, and save additional training costs
because their ability to absorb will be faster than those who only have the
life experience or personal qualities. And employers believe that, with an
employee with sufficient specialized knowledge, they will be able to easily
respond and fix problems more effectively and quickly.

- Let's turn to the next issue is also the last part that is Recommendations
drawn from affirmation
+ For businesses, more specifically, businesses need to build a corporate
image to be able to attract good employees for positions in the business.
+ According to the statistics of an American newspaper, 76 percent of
people want to work for firms with a good reputation, 69 percent of job
prospects will reject a job offer from a company with a bad reputation, even
if unemployed.
Before I stop, let me go through my main points again. First, I started with the
importance of formal academic qualifications. Then, I continued with The value of
formal academic qualification brings. Finally, I talked about recommendations. In
short, for employers, a candidate's academic qualifications are considered more
important than life experience or personal qualities. As Marc Benioff said
“Acquiring the right talent is the most important key to growth. Hiring was – and
still is – the most important thing we do.” Thank you everyone for listening.
