SCRIPT

Good afternoon to everyone, especially to our panelists and

to my groupmates. I am Lourdes Magtaas, the leader of the group
and I am here to present to you our research proposal.

Before we discuss the different parts of our research, here is

a short background regarding our topic.

INTRODUCTION:

Climate Change has long been an issue since the late

eighteen hundreds which continues to worsen as each century
passes. It is described by Jackson (2020) as the change in global
weather patterns due to excessive greenhouse gases released
into the atmosphere. As stated by NASA’s Goddard institute, the
Earth’s average global temperature has risen by 0.8 degrees
Celsius or 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit since 1880. This in turn
continues to affect the world’s environment, economy, and health.
As such, Barangay San Carlos, Lipa City is one of the
communities that is prone to such implications due to the
residents’ behavior towards waste management. Specifically, the
locale continues to experience severe flooding during heavy rains
and typhoons which affects the people living in the area to be
exposed to diseases such as influenza, typhoid, dengue, and
other respiratory diseases that endanger the residents’ health and
well-being. As it was said by Mendoza (2019), there was an
outbreak of Dengue which affected one out of ten people in the
community last 2019.

For the framework, the group used Janmaimool’s application

of the Protection Motivation Theory in order to analyze the
relationship between the independent and dependent variables
found in the study.

With this, the research study seeks to answer the following

questions:

1. What is the perception of the residents towards EcoVIew in

terms of its features, usability, flexibility, and security? 
2. What is the environmental health and lifestyle of the
residents towards waste management with the help of
EcoView? 
3. How will EcoView address the overall environmental health
of Barangay San Carlos with regards to sanitation, air and
land pollution, energy consumption, and waste segregation
and management in the community? 
 4. Is there a significant relationship between the environmental
health and lifestyle of the residents towards waste
management and their perception of EcoView?  What are the
possible ways to further improve their knowledge about the
environment as well as the application?

Consequently, to support the research study, the following

subtopics are included in the related literature such as:

1. Climate Change
2. Carbon Footprint And Its Relation To Waste Management
3. Mobile Application As A Solution On Reducing Carbon
Emissions 
4. The Protection Motivation Theory As The Framework For
The Study

Lastly, in order to conduct the study, the

researchers will utilize the convergent parallel mixed-method
design wherein the quantitative and qualitative data gathering are
executed at the same time. After this, they are analyzed
separately so that both types of data can be compared or
combined in order to come up with a viable interpretation of the
data in o get an accurate and reliable result.
