Autobiography: Mariela Giselle Arenas

January 24, 2022

Personal History

My name is Mariela Arenas and I was born and raised here in Florida. In my family there is a

total of five. My dad who is Santos Arenas, my mom who is Maria Felix Arenas, my older

brother Jose Daniel Arenas, and my younger brother Lukaz Caleb Arenas. I am a 2021 graduate

from North Marion High School and now I am a first year at the College of Central Florida.

Experience working with children

I gained my experience working with children at a young age. I was six years old and my cousins

would come over to my house and asked if I could help their kids with their homework. Because

they did not know English and they didn’t go to school, for them I was their safest best since I

was a couple of years older than their kids. I enjoyed helping them with the small knowledge that

I had at the time and it made me feel very helpful. Five years later, at the age of eleven, my

mother gave birth to my younger brother. Because I am the only girl in our family, my mother

would always have me taking care or helping take care of my brother. However, it was never a

bother to me. I always helped with making the bottles, taking him baths, putting him to sleep,

changing his diaper, and just spending quality time with him. Later, during quarantine, I began to

read to children in my church and I enjoyed doing that as well. I could see how eager they were

and wanted to read more stories. I have never had any official work in working with children.
Strengths

I would say that a very big strength that I have is that I am great listener. I make sure to just pay

attention to the person who is speaking. I have learned throughout my life that people feel cared

for when people remember things that they mentioned to them a while ago. Another strength of

mine would be that I am honest. I will tell you the truth about anything that you ask me.

Sometimes that can be a weakness of mine because sometimes I can be too honest and I will not

be aware of that until someone tells me something. I feel that all these strengths of mine will

contribute well working with children because they will have someone who is honest with them

and someone who listens to them when they want to say whatever it is that is on their mind.

About Me

A lot of my hobbies revolve around sketching and drawing. It is something that helps me

destress. I also love shopping. Finding and adding new pieces to my wardrobe is always exciting

for me. This a bit of an expensive but not as much as traveling. Finding new places to explore is

always an adventure. So far, I have traveled to Mexico, Canada, New York, California,

Tennessee, North Carolina, and the District of Columbia to visit Washington D.C. Some places I

would like to travel to is Seoul, South Korea, and all of Europe.

Benefits

Some benefits from this curriculum is that it will teach me how to properly care for kids and

what to do in certain situations that I may encounter in the future. For example, many people

when they hear someone is trying to or wants to be a teacher, they always say things such as

“You need a lot of patience for that!” or “Wow! You must have a lot patience because children

are a handful.”. Sometimes people even say the inevitable “Why?” with a face that says “Why
would you do that yourself. These courses will help me not have that mindset. It will me grow

and see what specific care kids need.

My goals are…

1. Become a preschool teacher.

2. Buy myself a home.

3. Move to another country to teach English to young children. Possible a country that

speaks Spanish.
