WHO WOULD YOU FIRE?

Due to downsizing, the CEO of Thang Loi corporation made a decision of reducing 40
over 350 employees. There are 02 over 05 employees of the Human Resource
Department. They are full-time contacted employees.

1. Ms. Nga, 27 years old, graduated from UEH, Bachelor of Business


Administration. She has worked at Thang Loi for over 4 years. She is a hard-
working employee at the position of output quota (to identify the amount of
productivity of each employee in the firm). In the last 3 years, in performance
appraisal, she was evaluated as an outstanding employee. However, in the first 4
months of this year, Nga took days off for the reasons of sickness9 times.
2. Mr. Ha, 25 years old, has worked at Thang Loi for 3.5 years. He has been moved
to the HR department in 6 months and in charge of compensation. Hahas a
vocational certificate majored in Labour and Compensation. He is going to get
married next month. Ha’s fiancée has her own business in Ben Thanh market, very
successfully and she also has her private house. Ha completed in developing a new
compensation system for Thang Loi and this system is evaluated as a good tool to
motivate employees.
3. Mr. Loi, 56 years old, vice head of HR department, in charge of recruitment,
employee relations, and labour contracts. Mr. Loi has a Bachelor degree majored
in Labour Economics and Human Resource Management in a part time program.
Loi has worked for Thang Loi in 25 years. At first, he started as a secretary staff
and then he is promoted gradually. He does not want to retire early. His wife is not
in a good health condition and his 3 daughters graduated from universities.
4. Mr. Long, 45 years old, graduated from a university in East-Europe, majored in
Labour Economics. He used to be a lecturer in a university before applying in
Thang Loi. Long is in charge of training, has 6 years in the position of vice head
of HR department. His performance is depended much on his feelings: when he
feels good, his performance is very good; otherwise, it is bad.
5. Ms. Lan, 22 years old, graduated from a pedagogic vocational school, in charge of
paper works related to HR of the firm. Lan is gifted at art and singing, she knows
how to organize events for the firms. Her performance is average. She is a
daughter of the Vice President of the District.

If you were the Head of HR department, who would you fire? Why?
