Windows Virtual Desktop (WVD) Offer - Partner FAQ

Offer summary
Starting January 5, 2021 through June 30, 2021 (the “Windows Virtual Desktop Offer Period” – recently
extended), Microsoft is offering a 30 percent discount on all D-series and Bs-series Windows virtual
machines (VMs) when the VMs are used as part of a Windows Virtual Desktop host pool. This offer is
limited to one per organization (billing scope) and may only be redeemed by new customers that begin
using Windows Virtual Desktop for the first time during the WVD Offer Period and activate the offer. This
offer is not available to any customers located in China or in connection with deployments with Microsoft
Azure Government services regardless of location. Government customers include all levels of government
– national, federal, state, local, etc., and may include educational institutions and hospitals. This offer is
available to government customers deploying in Microsoft commercial Azure services. This offer is not
available to customers using Windows Virtual Desktop with Citrix or VMware management services.

Next Steps
• Develop a Windows Virtual Desktop offer for new WVD customers that uses this customer
discount.
• Leverage the Azure marketplace for promotion of your offer.
• Incorporate this offer in your Azure services sales motions.
• Activate the offer for your customer directly in the Azure portal.

How can I learn more about the offer?

Learn more about the offer on Azure.com

What is the duration of the offer?

The offer is available for customers to activate from launch on January 5 through June 30, 2021
with usage occurring for the next 90 consecutive days post activation. Please note that the
discount period starts immediately after the customer activates the offer in the Azure portal
hence the customer should be ready to start deployment as soon as possible after offer
activation.

Will all customers see the offer in the Azure Portal?

No. Only customers that have not used WVD before will see the banner when deploying in the
Azure Portal. This includes customers who may have previously completed Pilots, POCs, or
simple and quick tests with WVD. Anything that resulted in any dollar value usage – regardless
of how small – are not eligible for the offer.
Microsoft – Confidential Last updated 03/30/21

Does this impact my Azure Consumed Revenue (ACR) retirement and incentives?

This offer will reduce the compute consumption bill for a subscription and will require additional
ACR as needed to satisfy requirements.

Can customers use other Microsoft sales programs in addition to this offer?

This offer is intended to be used for customers who are not eligible for Azure Accelerate WVD
POC/Pilot and Azure Migration Program.

Can all partners use this offer on behalf of customers?

Microsoft is pleased to offer you this promotional price on Microsoft Products and Services,
which represents a discount on your standard price (“Promotional Discount”). Please note that
this Promotional Discount is intended to benefit end customers. For Government and State-
Owned Entities, you must ensure that the customer price for Microsoft Products and Services
does not exceed the Maximum Resell Price, including if you are selling as a distributor.
“Maximum Resell Price” means the applicable ERP less the Promotional Discount.

Can partners activate this offer for the customer?

Yes, partners can activate this offer in the Azure portal for new to Windows Virtual Desktop
customer subscriptions not in the Azure government cloud for a subscription for which they
have administration rights.

What Azure roles and permissions are needed to redeem the offer?
People with Contributor or Owner permissions on the Azure subscription can activate the offer.

Why do certain subscriptions show ineligible in the Azure portal?

Subscriptions could be deemed ineligible for following reasons:

Offer may have been redeemed by another subscription in the organization’s billing scope. Only
one subscription can redeem the offer in a billing scope.

Subscriptions in that billing scope have seen WVD usage before the launch of the offer.

Subscription has been newly created and you would need to wait up to 12 hours before you can
activate the offer on the same.

What is a Billing Scope?

You can activate only one offer on a billing scope.
For EA customers, the billing scope is an Enterprise agreement.
For MCA customers, the billing scope is a billing profile.
For CSP (including partner led MCA) customers, the billing scope
is partner and customer combination.
For others, it’s the user account.

How do I redeem the offer?

The offer can be activated using the banner from Windows Virtual Desktop Overview blade and
selecting an eligible subscription for redemption. Once redeemed a banner and notification will
appear confirming redemption.

Is the offer available through EA and CSP?

Yes, the offer is available on both of these.

Will customers who have deployed WVD through Citrix Cloud or VMware Horizon Cloud
be eligible?

They would be eligible if they have never previously deployed the WVD native solution.

Is this offer relevant for POCs/Pilots or for WVD production rollouts only?

In order to fully utilize the maximum 90 day benefit the offer provides for, it is recommended
that the customer utilize this offer for their production workloads vs a POC which may be for a
much shorter duration.

Will this offer work in modern and legacy commerce systems for the Azure portal?

Yes, this offer will work for both systems.

Is the offer available in all A14 areas and subsidiaries?

Yes with the exception that this offer is not available to any customers located in China.

Is the offer available to Public Sector/Government customers?

This offer is available to Public Sector/government customers deploying in Microsoft’s

commercial Azure services. The offer is not eligible with deployments with Microsoft’s Azure
Government services regardless of location. Government customers include all levels of
government – national, federal, state, local, etc., and may include educational institutions and
hospitals.

What segment of customers are eligible for this offer?

Customers in any segment are eligible providing they are new to WVD Native.

How can I validate that the offer is being applied?

You can use usage details data to verify the discount application.
Each VMs usage record will be split into two records – for 70% and 30% of the usage. The record
for 30% of the usage will have free meter (GUID: 657d812c-4f5a-5532-a4cc-791a81f56cec) on it.

Example: If you use VM1 for 24 hours in a day, the usage for this VM will be split into two
records as follows:
Microsoft – Confidential Last updated 03/30/21

Record 1 will be emitted for VM1 and will have usage quantity of 16.8 hours in the day.
We will charge for this usage using the existing VM meter applicable to this VM type.

Record 2 will be emitted for VM1 with usage quantity of 7.2 hours in the day. We will
charge for this usage using free meter name: “Compute - WVD Promo” and Meter GUID:
657d812c-4f5a-5532-a4cc-791a81f56cec.

The Additional Info section in free usage record will also have the original meter that was
consumed.

I have reserved instances; how does that impact discounts?

The actual usage that is charged will be eligible for reservation discounts. So, in scenario above,
the VM1 will consume only 16.8 hours from an available reservation in a day. Here are two
scenarios:
• If the customer doesn’t have WVD and purchases it via the offer, AND purchases it with
RI paid upfront, then the offer will not apply as the VM’s have already been paid for.
• If the customer doesn’t have WVD and purchases it via the offer, AND purchases it with
RI paid monthly, we apply the 30% discount (E.g. RI costs $100/month; the customer
activates the offer, so for the next 3 months will pay $70/month instead of $100)

I already have discounts on usage, will I get additional 30% discounts?

Yes, the WVD offer discount stacks on top of an existing discount.

How is the 30% price adjustment done on the back end? Is it a rebate or a credit?
It is a 30% discount done on the backend off the Pay As You Go rates of the VM SKUs noted
above for this offer.

Would the 30% be adjusted after they purchase through a partner?

No. The 30% adjustment shows as applied to the VMs involved. See example above.

Is the WVD offer good for both the classic and update (also referred to as the Spring
release) versions of Windows Virtual Desktop?
Yes, it is available for both releases.

I have activated the WVD Offer but the banner does not show up.

Banner can take up to 10 minutes to show up from the time of Offer activation.

How do I get the banner back once dismissed?

Banner is persistent on the Windows Virtual Desktop Overview blade. You could access the Offer
details from that location.

but the rest of these Terms will remain in effect.
• If you do not accept these Terms, you may not redeem the Offer.
• You may cancel at any time by (i) unregistering your VMs, in which case standard rates
will continue to apply for your VMs, or (ii) deleting or deallocating your VMs, in which
case you will not incur any additional charges for your VMs; however, you will still be
obligated to pay Microsoft for any outstanding fees incurred prior to such time that you
delete or deallocate your VMs.
