Course Number PED 702

Course Title Trends & Issues in Andragogy & Pedagogy

Course Prerequisite None

Course Description The course is a critical examination of current developments in pedagogy and andragogy. The
course focuses on three broad themes: (1) critical analysis of the differences between pedagogy
and andragogy and how it may inform one’s personal theory of instruction, (2) review of current
issues and trends in pedagogy and andragogy, with emphasis on how instruction is impacted by
social and contextual development like globalization and progress in ICT, (3) conduct a simple
research or an inquiry on how child education and/or adult education may be best implemented.

Course Learning At the end of the term, the students are expected to:

at large, school divisions, districts and the schools;
2. Explore how andragogical and pedagogical issues are addressed in the K-12 Curriculum
implemented in the Philippines;

3. Be able to articulate educational theories that have relevant connections to present


day pedagogical and andragogical practices;
4. Be able to identify the issues confronting pedagogy and andragogy and challenge
current policy and practice;
5. Be able to synthesize recent research articles dealing with relevant issues on adult
learning and children’s education;
6. Demonstrate the ability to make educational decisions which are supported by data
rather than only on personal opinions.
7. Apply pedagogical and andragogical principles to the design of English /Math
Instructional Material.
8. Apply pedagogical principles to the design of English/Mathematics instruction for K-12
classes.
