OF WOMEN TEACHERS WITH RESPECT TO
HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN
SIVAGANGAI DISTRICT

ABSTRACT
A coin is valued when it has two sides as head and tail. Likewise, every individual
have to balance two life’s. One is their personal life and other is professional life. They
should know how to balance both. If it not, an individual will face dissatisfaction in life.
Yes, it is hard to isolate and structure a wellspring of contention. Especially, Teachers
are facing so many interruptions in their profession as well as in personal. There are
two factors to be balanced by them. Work based factors like working hours and
responsibilities in Professional life and also Family based factors like family hours and
responsibilities in Personal life are such common factors . Due to covid, one of such
factor is digital infused education system. In India, the growth of higher secondary
education examined challenges related to educational system .This make imbalance in
their professional life. Married woman need more family hours to care child. It sakes
the balance of personal life. Hence, woman require talent, skill, caution, concern and
care to achieve work-life balance. This paper is an attempt to analyze and assess
various factors that affects work-life balance of women teachers who are working in
higher secondary schools, Sivagangai District.

1. INTRODUCTION
Inside a woman, the values, standards, attitudes, morals, ethics and mind sets remains strong
when they know balancing their age with work progress, career development, social values and
the family. They have some strong knowledge on the factors that influence the balance of work
and family. Not only to them, it would be beneficial to employers and society too. The answers
of when, where and how the teachers perform their work paved way for balanced life.
Professional life and personal life to be maintained perfect harmony, integrated and
balanced without any overlaps is termed as Work-life balance. In present scenario, teachers are
facing so many difficulties in professional life. They need lot of patience, energy, creativity,
skills to overcome that obstacles. In family, when comparing to men, women responsibilities
are more. When it is imbalanced, they feel stress, pressure and unhappy. Hence, this paved way
for higher absenteeism, psychological problems, physical and mental distress and so on.
Women are moving before to work in order to develop their family. This attitude is now natural
and flexible due to changes of technological environment and standard of living. Work life
balance refers to maintaining the and sustain the equilibrium between responsibilities at work
and at home. Work life balance is one of the important fact being faced by the female employees
in present world. For the study, the various factors that influenced the work-life balance of
women teachers are analyzed and assessed.

2. LITERATURE REVIEW
Meenakshi.S et. al(2013).The researcher identified that to improve employee loyalty and
productivity an organization has to ensure that its employees have a supportive work
environment ,work life balance and personal responsibilities. By the same token, researchers
through their research have come to know that the following factors are responsible for causing
depression and poor performance among employees in an organization. Poorly managed work
schedules and domestic life conflicts due to work pressure.
Silva Kark oulian, Jordan Srour and Tala Sinan (2016) The researchers examined the
compound relationship between external and internal locus of control, levels of perceived stress
at work, and work-life balance. The researcher also assessed the role of gender in the
relationship between the aforementioned variables. They took sample of 320 employees (160
females and 160 males) working in the Lebanese banking sector contribute to the empirical
results of the research.
A.Vasumathi(2018)The researcher reviewed about the work-life balance (WLB) of female
workers with respected of outstanding Work-life balance ,explanations of work-life balance
,determinations or work-life balance, facilitators of work-life balance ,that is competition for
WLB, so they are creating a strategy for WLB, these performances and finalize, importance of
WLB. The literature review of research focused on distribute the types of effect on work-life
that is balancing, And the types of variations and sources of the journals, books, doctoral thesis,
working papers, reports, magazines, internet websites, etc and it is giving the signal about the
reflection in the last part.
Panneer Selvam, Rajeswari. (2021) The study was carried out to find that Career and goals
are the most important factors in life. The paper focused to the role of a sample population of

women employee in different occupation in balancing work and life in Tamil Nadu, India. The
researcher studied and analyzed in order to explore and portray the sensitivity of women and
their perception of society as well as to highlight the values, attitudes and beliefs of women in
formal organization and primary family system.
Tamang, Gyan & Shrestha Hada, Sunity. (2021). The researcher found and explained the
factors in work domain and family domain with respect to Nepalese women working in four
sectors: civil service, financial sector, NGOs / INGOs. Conflict and /or balancing between
family and work responsibilities is concern to both male and female and also to both employees
and employers.

3. OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY


• To identify the various factors that impact on Work life balance of women teachers.
• To analyze and assess the effects of factors on Work life balance of women teachers in
higher secondary school in Sivagangai district

5. PILOT STUDY
The questionnaire for the factors of Work life balance of women teachers in Sivagangai District
was pre tested with fifty samples. At the end of the pre testing, required modifications were
made in the questionnaire.

6. RESEARCH DESIGN
Descriptive survey method is used for the study. The terms and concepts have been
operationally defined, further the hypotheses for empirical validation are stated, sample
selection, statistical methods for data analysis and tools used for measurements to obtain data
are included.

7. SAMPLING METHOD
In Sivagangai District, random sampling technique is used for selection of women teachers.
The sample was selected and teachers in higher secondary school are approached for filling up
Questionnaire. After collecting the filled-up questionnaire, they were scrutinized and collected
data were classified and tabulated based on objective of the study.

8. RESEARCH SAMPLE
The data which were collected from the 104 women teachers who are working at Sivagangai
District. Interviews are conducted at various higher secondary schools and at the residence of
teachers as their convenience.

9. CONCLUSION
In the present ever changing world, both men and women are in need to enrich their career with
life. There are lot of hindrance to attain satisfaction in life and also achieve Work life balance.
To make a sorting among the factors, they should identify and analyze them thoroughly. As a
result, it can thus be concluded that Work life balance is an important concern for all. In order
to taste the sweetness of fruit, an individual has right to live a healthy and happiest life which
can be obtained only when she is able to maintain a balance between work and life. By deciding
a scale of inputs and updating oneself to changes help in facing challenges of professional and
personal life. For that, they will practice yoga, healthy habits, hobbies, exercises in home
environment and in work place.
