THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

followed by the statement of the purpose.

On a separate paragraph, type your statement of the purpose. Here is an

example: This study aimed to determine whether a night of sleep deprivation, equivalent

to an “all-nighter”, would have an impact on the motor and cognitive performance of

students, specifically focusing on reaction time, executive function, working memory,

and cardiopulmonary function. Sleep deprivation can arise from poor sleep behaviors;

sleep hygiene encourages habits conducive to restorative sleep and avoidance of

substances or behaviors that are not.

Then before you proceed to the next part of Chapter 1, write your THESIS

STATEMENT HERE. It can be a claim of fact, value, or policy.

1. What is the profile of respondents in terms of:

1.1. Age; and

1.2. Gender?

2. What are the Psychological effects of sleep deprivation towards the academic

performance of the students?

2.1. Short and Long term memory loss;

Scope and Delimitation

This study focuses on determining the psychological effect of sleep deprivation

towards the academic performance of the students… It will focus on or cover the

following… (write here the parameters of the study), and it will not discuss…(enumerate

the things that are beyond your scope and details you will not deal with).

Significance of the Study

The researchers believe that the information data gathered about the psychological

effects of sleep deprivation towards the academic performance of the students would be

beneficial for the following:

GROUP OF PEOPLE – Reason.

PARENTS – This study will help the parents realize the risks of letting their children

sleep less hours.

Definition of Terms

For better understanding on how the terminologies were used in the study, the

following were defined operationally:

TERM (WORD) Formal Definition.

Academic Performance refers to the grades in English 10 for the Second Quarter.

NOTE: Use the parts of a formal definition (Species – Verb – Genus – Differentia)

REVIEW RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

The chapter presents the related literature and the related studies after the through

in - depth search done by the researchers.

Related Studies

Foreign Studies

According to Ross (2015), he conducted the study on extended total sleep

deprivation, minimum of eight days, which consistently discovered mild neurological

signs, such as myopia, tremor, slurred speech, and sluggish corneal reflex.

In addition, he discovered that the most significant effect of sleep loss is the

physiological sleepiness, or the tendency to fall asleep when there is a lack of stimuli.

Sleepiness becomes extreme after the loss of a single night of sleep. Without competing

stimuli, an individual lacking a night sleep can fall asleep within 2 or 3 minutes the next

day. This can cause dramatic effects on productivity. After about 48 hours without sleep,

micro sleeps become increases; an individual must increase effort to maintain a stable

level of performance.

Discuss here why the related study is SIMILAR and not the SAME with your

research paper.

METHODOLOGY
This chapter present the methods used including research design, sampling

techniques, data gathering procedure, research instruments and the chosen statistical

treatement for the study.

Research Design

This study utilized quantitative research employing numerical type of research

design to acquire the required data BLAH BLAH BLAH.

Corpus of Data

Sampling Technique

The researcher applied the purposive sampling technique. Purposive sampling

technique also known as selective or subjective sampling relies on the judgment of the

researcher when it comes to selecting the units (e.g. people, cases/ organizations and

events) that are to be studied (Laerd Dissertation, 2012). In line with this the researchers

set the following criteria:

1.) The students must be from (CONNECT TO YOUR SCOPE AND DELIMITATION)

NOTE: YOU MAY ADD MORE CRITERIA

The Respondents

The researcher chose thirty (30), fifteen (15) grade 12 and fifteen (15) grade 11

students from

Research Instrument/s

The main tool that the researchers used in this study was the survey questionnaire –

checklist. The set of survey questionnaire – checklist was constructed for the students for

the student respondents and it was made by the researchers. This consists the factors that

affect self-discipline regarding their immersion in terms of time management and their

behaviors. The survey questionnaire is tested and validated through SPSS with a

Cronbach alpa result of 889 and it is a four Likert scale used to measure attitudes or

opinions. Which this scale respondents are asked to rate items on a level of agreement.

Procedures

In order to conduct the survey within the designated school the researcher

requested permission to the principal of BLAH BLAH BLAH. For collecting raw data,

the researchers used in-depth interview BLAH BLAH. This allows the researcher to get

the required data, and also attain participants’ behaviors, perceptions and experiences.

The researchers asked for permission first before conducting an interview and the whole

conversation was recorded through cellphone. The participants were informed. Follow-up

question was done for some clarifications and to justify the explanation of the

respondents’ statements. After interviewing the recording has been transcript in order to

interpret and analyze their answers.

To interpret the data effectively and concisely, the researchers INDICATE HERE

Statistical Treatment

Weighted Mean

This will be used to determined the average mean of the psychological effect of lack

of sleep towards academic performance.

Standard Deviation

This will be employed to provide some idea about the distribution of scores the

mean average.

Percentage and Frequency

This would be used to normalized the frequency counts and percentage distribution of

personal related variable of the respondents, this formula will be used in the Statement of

the Problem No. 1.

f
Formula: %= x 100
N

%is the percentage N is the total number of respondent

f is the frequency 100 is the constant value

Pearson Produce Moment Correlation Coefficient (Pearson r)

This will be used to determine the relationship between two variables. Moreover,

Psyche (2017) stated that Pearson’s r correlation is used when you want to find a linear

relationship between two variables. It can be used in a casual as well as an associative

research hypothesis.
CAPTAIN ALBERT AGUILAR NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

In order to analyze the data statistically the research will use SPSS. SPSS tutorials (2017)

stated that SPSS is software for editing and analyzing all sorts of data. These data may

come from basically any source: scientific research, a customer database, Google

Analytics or even the server log files of a website.

Table 3 shows the short term and long term memory loss among the respondents

in terms of Sleep deprivation. The overall composite mean was 2.87 with standard

deviation of 0.94.

As can be highlighted from the result, this outcome means that sleep deprivation

can affect the memory loss, on the other hand, this reveals that “I can’t remember my

classmate names” has the highest mean with 3.00 and a standard deviation of 0.91 as

Slightly Evident with a qualitative description of agree, while “I can memorize poems

easily if I sleep on time” has the lowest mean of 2.70 and standard deviation of 1.12 as

slightly Evident with qualitative description of disagree.

According to Drummond, et.al. (2014), the actual ability to store information;

therefore, storing more irrelevant information into their working memory, leaving less

room for that which is relevant, making it appear that the memory itself is being

hindered.

towards the academic performances. The results indicated the following:

1. USE THE HIGHLIGHTED STATEMENT FROM CHAPTER4

2. DO IT AGAIN.

Conclusion

Based on the findings of the study, the following conclusion are drawn:

1. BORROW FROM THE IMPLICATIONS AND REMOVE THE DISTANCE

1. The school Administrator may create the program like team building training or

workshop on the findings of the study regarding lack of sleep so that the student can

use it to manage themselves and to address the problem of the student regarding of

their psychological effect of sleep deprivation.

2. The teachers may observe or closely monitor the students who lack sleep and give

them physical exercises to make them concentrate.

3. The parents may use the findings of this study to guide and orient their children at

school and improve their self-discipline towards psychological effects of sleep

deprivation.
