Creating Your Own Detective

Today you're going to have a go at creating your own detective.

Task 1

Look at the collection of objects pictured below.

What sort of person do you think would carry these things around? What can we infer about them?

What might the person who carries these objects look like?
What sort of clothes might they wear?
What might they sound like?
What might their hobbies and interests be?
What might they be called?

Task 2

Look again at the objects.

Imagine that they belong to your fictional detective.

Consider the same questions as above and jot down some notes in response:

What sort of person do you think would carry these things around? What can we infer about them?

What might the person who carries these objects look like?
What sort of clothes might they wear?
What might they sound like?
What might their hobbies and interests be?
What might they be called?

Using the ideas you have jotted down, write a paragraph describing your detective. Focus on
showing your reader what they are like through description rather than simply telling them that
they are x or y.
