thinking is about and the three skills that it carry.
*appreciate examples of how CT is applied.
*appreciate the relevance and significance of
critical thinking for senior high school students
as administered by the participants in
attendance in this seminar.
*appreciate mental models as evidences of
critical thinking and understanding.
Definition of Terms
The 21st Century
- officially began January 1, 2001 and will end December 31, 2100
- began with the United States of America as the sole superpower
in the absence of the Soviet Union with China emerging as a
potential superpower
- The New Normal
- It is influenced by the 4th Industrial Revolution
- Where “Learning is everywhere and anywhere”.

e.g. Education/Learning Revolution (accepting the challenge of Alvin Toffler ( The

Third Wave) and P. Senge (The 5th Discipline) : that we have to LEARN, UNLEARN and
RE-LEARN) in an environment that is VUCA, peopled by D&D, that is menaced by
GAFAM.

Conclusions
• Critical thinking leads to substantive learning
particularly when expressed thru mental models
paving the way to better comprehension and insight.

• Every discipline - mathematics, physics, chemistry,

biology, geography, sociology, anthropology, history,
philosophy and so on - is a mode of thinking. Every
discipline can only be successfully and significantly
understood only through critical thinking.
Conclusion (2)
• Critical thinking is not to be devoured in a single
sitting nor at two or three workshops.
• It is powerful concept to be savored and
reflected upon.
• It is an idea to live and grow with.
• It is focuses upon that part of our minds that
enables us to think things through, to learn from
experience, to acquire and retain knowledge.

in critical thinking and in the teaching
strategies essential to it.

critically and proficiently (i.e. well advanced
in an art, occupation or branch of knowledge)
