1. Introduction
1.1 Company description

Kromberg & Schubert look back on a success story of over 110 years. The pioneering
spirit and innovative entrepreneurship with a flat hierarchy have allowed the company's
continued expansion and globalization. With over 50,000 employees in over 40 locations,
Kromberg & Schubert is today one of the world's leading suppliers of electrical systems, cables
and plastic components. The key to success is the company's culture: Enthusiasm and motivation
to deliver creative product solutions are the drivers of interdisciplinary teams, which focus their
efforts on recognizing market trends at an early stage and also addressing our customers'
individual requirements.

1.2 Locations

relocation of its headquarters to Abensberg, Bavaria, Kroschu has had a continuous expansion.
The company currently has locations in several regions:
-Europe: Germany, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia, Romania (Nadab, Medias and Sibiu),
Poland, Ukraine, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Northern Macedonia and Austria.
-Asia: China and Dubai
-South America: Argentina, Mexico, Brazil and Paraguay
-Africa: Morocco, Tunisia, South Africa and Botswana.

1.3 Economic performances

In Romania in 2020, KROMBERG & SCHUBERT ROMANIA TI SRL reported a
turnover of 151,240,230 RON with a loss of -855,087 RON and a number of 993 employees,

3
after 22 years of activity. Globally, the number of employees reaches approximately 50,000 and
generates sales of 1.83 billion USD. Projects currently underway in Romania would be for
Porsche, Audi, Volkswagen ... etc [3]

In Timișoara, the factory produced until 2021, the production being moved to Kruševac
in Serbia.

The engineering department is divided into 2 categories:

1. IE-L, this is local engineering. These are engineers who are in the factory and have
direct contact with the product and have the role of solving various problems that may occur
when producing wiring.

2. IE-CC, this is the Center of Competence. Their role is to process the documentation
received from R&D and to implement it in production. The competence center is in turn divided
into 3 subgroups.

-FAW are people who take the information received from R&D and convert it
into Kroschu Identifiers (any wire and any elements that go into the production of wiring
has such an identifier)

-TV are people who in the CAD program specific to firms (KrossyCads) create
2D models for the boards used by the operators in the factory to produce wiring.

-TZ (Time and Motion) are people who create work instructions, calculate
working time and constantly optimize the work process. A special feature of a TZ
engineer is the use of the wiring modularization concept. Compared to other cabling
companies where the actual manufacture of the final product is done by wire, Kroschu
uses the principle of modularization to divide the creation of the wiring on several
boards.

2. Workplace
2.1 Company gadgets
Within the company, all the unprocessed elements that enter the plant go to the storage
area from where they are selected to move directly to the area of the boards where the final
wiring takes place or through various processes.
The SC (Schneiderei) area is the area where the following automatic thread processes take place:

- debits

-disolations

-cut

-weaving

-crimp

Most devices are pneumatically operated.

Example of a machine used for wire cutting

5
The area of VK (Work Confectionery) is described by the manual processes performed
by the operators. These are processes that require increased attention or for which the machine
tools needed to process the wire are not owned at the factory. Examples of processes would be:

-injection and water check

-crimp table slippers

-punctuators with bandage for special situations in production

-prototypes

-welds

The area of the boards is described by the various fixed or movable boards on which the
wiring is assembled.

For example, in the case of the Porsche project, there are 5 lines.

- mobile FA (Final Assembly) line where the final wiring is assembled

-Fixed basic line where the elements that come 100% are assembled, ie wires and
boxes that appear in any wiring produced.

-fixed line where the harness for the board (Cockpit) is assembled

-fixed line where the door wiring is assembled (Doors)

The foaming area has devices that inject a plastic substance into certain parts of the
wiring to ensure protection against those areas that come into contact with wet areas in the
machine.

Screwing area where the screws on the battery are assembled on the wiring with a special
device.

Audit area where the staff checks whether the wiring dimensions are correct and
complies with the customer's request.

The test area (EPT) consists of checking the electrical connections of the wiring through
various modules in a test table. Each wiring terminal is inserted into these modules that send
signals through the wiring and check the response. There is also a visual control area that checks
if all the fuses necessary for the wiring are inserted in certain boxes.

The packing area is the area where the wiring is put in special bags with a specific shape.
The colors on the bag represent the various areas of the wiring so when unpacking the customer
can easily identify which area of wiring is in his hand.

6
The repair area is the area where the wiring is repaired where various problems are
discovered.

2.2 My duties
Within the company I hold the position of Mechanical Engineer, TZ specialization on the Porsche
project. My main responsibilities are:

Changes processing

When the customer orders a car according to the modules he needs on the car, R&D sends
information with changes that appear on the wiring. For example, if we know that we have 20 commands
for a KSK (wiring) with a certain extra branch, then we have to integrate the change in the program. The
first step is the FAW, which creates the identifiers for all the elements in the wiring. After that, the TZ
can start processing the change.

The first step is modularization. The wiring consists of client modules (Kundene) which by
modularization we divide into Rest Modules or P-Modules (Production Module). The difference between
these is that for easier optimization and assembly of the wiring the Kunden is divided into smaller pieces.

The P-mode consists of elements of a branch (which can be several Kundene) that can be closed
separately from the large wiring. We say closure when the terminal has all the poles occupied by the
wires and the branch can be bandaged up to a point. Basically P-modules are combinations of Kundene
that can be closed. These are done on fixed boards where the operator uses a working instruction called
Regal Layout also created and updated by TZ.

Rest Modules are all the elements in a Kunden that remain unassembled in the P-module. These
are assembled directly on the final board where the pre-assembled P-modules are added.

7
The modularization process is done carefully depending on the modularization families. For
example, we have the Getriebe family, which is a branch for the gearbox, depending on the Kundenele
being ordered, various P's are formed, but only one P-module in the Getriebe family can be used on a
wiring harness. It is our duty that the P-module contains all the elements required by the customer.

The second step is to create the Bandplan. This is actually the step-by-step work instruction that
the operator reads to know how to pick up the wires and terminals and how to connect them to the final
board.

Bandplan
.

Next a Pseudo is created. This is actually a file containing all the Kundenele, P-modules
and Rest Modules at a certain level and version (subject to change). It is important to note that
when IE-CC receives a change, we process it but it gets implemented over a period of time. The
last important step is to calculate the working hours. Each process in the Bandplan has a time
allotted in industrial seconds. When we process a modification we already have an approximate
time for the production of the wiring and depending on this time we can know how long it takes
to assemble the wiring months before they are physically manufactured. Also, if new items
appear, we need to classify them here and give them some time. This time for each process is
obtained from factory-made timings.
At the end, the Regal Layout is updated. This is actually the way to place the wires on
some mobile shelves from which the operator takes the necessary elements to make P-modules.
Efficiency analysis

Weekly and monthly analyzes should be performed on wiring times produced one week
or one month in advance. Times are divided into work areas. If there are big time differences,
you have to find out why.
Analysis of various wires lists

As the production is located in Serbia and IE-CC in Romania, various information is

constantly required from one side to the other. Kroschu programs are used to extract lists of
8
threads or items and analyze them to solve problems that occur in production. Basically these
lists are how we see what is happening in the factory.
Factory timing and delegations

When optimizing production, the first step is to time operators to find out where a
bottleneck is. The production line is divided into Platzuri (ie work place for an operator). These
Platz are timed and depending on the results obtained, certain elements can be moved from one
Platz to another to balance the line. In the current case, a timetable sent from Romania to Serbia
is needed to make timings.
Personal Layout analysis and presentations of creation

For a more accurate and efficient analysis of the production, it is necessary to have a better
understanding and visualization of the production without being in the plant. So Personal Layout is a
visualization of how a line is organized and what kind of actions take place at each Platz.

4.Conclusion
I think that the time spent in the company helped me to understand much better how a
factory works and how all the processes are coordinated. It is a place where I can apply the
various knowledge I have gained during my college years. It's the first job I've had and I still
have a lot to learn, but I never regret the fact that I was hired by Kromberg & Schubert and I will
never be able to thank enough colleagues who have always helped me and will help me.
explained everything I need to know.
