YADIS
Yet Another Dune Indexer and Skinner

INTRODUCTION
yaDIS is written by Fred-L a french guy who decided to put some efforts together in
order to bring a simple and efficient tool to the Dune users community.

Fred-L is the only developer of this software. The official yaDIS thread where he is
giving information in French is located here:

http://www.homecinema-fr.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1182&t=29935331

Another thread in English can be found here

http://www.mpcclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22993

yaDIS grabs information from a scraper (movie database information provider) called
“Passion XBMC”:

Passion XBMC website is located here: http://passion-xbmc.org/

This manual describes how to get started with yaDIS and refers to version 0.9

WHAT DOES YADIS DO?

YaDIS purpose is to generate nice artwork for your movies library on the Dune Media
Player. It will use a root folder where your movies are located and scan them. Then it
will try to match a movie title from the movie directory.

If a movie is found it will retrieve data from the scraper and generate a synopsis and
cover for the movie. yaDIS will also index your movies. Even though GUI is still in
French, the retrieved information and generated synopsis can be made in English.

Here is what you will get on your Dune using Yadis :

When entering your movies director, you get a comprehensive list of your movie covers

When selecting one of your movies, you get movie details as shown below

Page 2

At the same level as your movie root folder, yaDIS will also generate an index.

The generated indexes are:

• Sorted by name (alphabetically)

• Sorted by movie year
• Sorted by Genre
• Sorted by Last Added

Here are a couple screenshots of index display

GETTING STARTED

Prerequisites

In order to have yaDIS installed and working you will need :

1. 1 PC running on Windows XP, Vista or Seven (x86 or x64)

2. Microsoft redistributable packages:

For x86: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=A5C84275-

3B97-4AB7-A40D-3802B2AF5FC2

For x64: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=BA9257CA-

337F-4B40-8C14-157CFDFFEE4E

3. A Dune running with latest Firmware

4. A Root Directory in which you have a subdirectory for each movie containing the
media file. Here is a sample :

yaDIS know extensions are : .iso, .mkv, .ts, .ps, .mpg, .m2ts, .vob, .avi, .Mov,
.mp4, .qt, .asf, .wmv

yaDIS also scans for Blu-ray / DVD file structures. If you have a DVD structure
you should have a subfolder named VIDEO_TS. If you have a Blu-ray structure, you
should have a BDMV subfolder

TIP : yaDIS will use the directory name to find the matching movies, so try to
avoid special characters.

5. yaDIS Installation : You can find yaDIS current version on any of the two links
below :
• HCFR : http://www.homecinema-
fr.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1182&t=29935331#p173562926

• MPC Club :http://www.mpcclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22993

Once you have installed each one of these items, you are ready to use yaDIS.

Main Screen
As of now yaDIS GUI is in French. An English version should be available in a future
release. Here is what main screen looks like:

Movie directory
selection

Options frame

Movies List

Application log

The GUI is pretty simple and we are going to review each main function of this
application.

Main features are

• Movie directory selection

• Movies list
• Application log
• Options frame

Page 5

1 - SELECTING YOUR MOVIES ROOT DIRECTORY

In the topmost window area, just click on the folder button and pick up your movies root
directory:

Once this has been done, you can click the “Scan” Button and yaDIS will start to look for
movies in subdirectories.

Note Your root directory should not be a drive because yaDIS will try to create an index
directory at the same level as your movie root as shown below:

Once yaDIS has scanned the selected directory, your movie list should be filled with the
subdirectories name.

Page 6

2 - ADJUSTING THE OPTIONS

The option frame looks as follows:
Index Name

Synopsis language

In this frame you can configure:

Index Directory: here is the name of the directory which will be created to hold the
indexes. This directory will be created at the same level as your Movie root

Generated “Last Added” If checked movies should be added to “Last added index”

Automatic Search If checked yaDIS will pick the most popular title found matching
without prompting for selection

Create Synopsis If checked Synopsis will be created after information retrieval.

Synopsis language: You can select French or English there. This will not change yadis
GUI language but the language it will request scrapers for information. When you
change this setting you need to reload the movie information from the scraper to have it
up to date, and the recreate the synopsis.

If it is the first time you run yaDIS, you probably want to have the “Automatic search
option turned on”. Once you have found most of you movies, you probably want to turn it
off.

3 – WORKING WITH MOVIES LIST

The list of the movies looks as follows

Movie title

State indicator

In the list you can see :

• A State indicator (LED): if the LED is Black, it means that the full information
data is not available in the directory for the movie. This means that either you
have not tried to retrieve the information, or the information is not available
from the scraper. If the LED is green, information is available
• Name of the movie : this is the directory name
• A set of movie flags :
o J : Indicates if movie has a cover
o F : Indicates if movie has a fanart
o I : indicates if movie information is available

For each one of this flags (O = Yes, X = No).

Any operation on movies will be based on the list selection. You can use Click, Shift +
Click , Ctrl + Click operations to select single / multiple lines in the list. You can also use
the buttons below the list for these operations:
