CHEMICAL SPLASH IN THE EYE

Summarized by: ALFARAS, ALBERT FREDERICK S.

I. OBJECTIVES
• TO GIVE FIRST AID TREATMENT IMMEDIATELY IN TIMES OF
ACCIDENTS.
• TO KNOW THE PROCEDURES AND HOW IT IS DONE.

II. DISCUSSION

Splash means if you splash somewhere or if it splashes, it hits someone or

something and scatters in a lot of small drops. Chemicals play an important
role at home, work and play. They include corrosives, solvents, flammables,
combustible materials and other chemical substances. They all can be
potentially dangerous, but they needn’t be harmful when they are handled,
stored and disposed of safely.

Chemical Splash in Eye is an accidental exposure of the eye/eyeball, to

potentially caustic chemicals. The condition may be mild or severe depending
on the type of chemical involved and the degree of exposure.

III. CAUSES:
• Improper handling of chemicals
• Leaking containers
• Intentional exposure

IV. SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS:

• Burning or itching eye

7. Remove contact lenses (if any).

8. Seek immediate medical attention.
9. Do not apply any eye drops.

VII. PREVENTION:
• Wear proper protective gear like goggles, whenever you are handling
chemicals.
• Understand and strictly adhere to manufacturer instructions, while
handling/pouring/using chemicals.
VIII. INSIGHTS
- The damage depends on the chemical one is exposed to, and on the
length of time exposed. Hence, immediate administration of First Aid is
very important. The eyes are one of the important part of our body. So, we
must always protect it. And contact emergency for medical help.
