1. Application

During drilling process, LB type drilling junk sub is applied mainly for

fishing of shivers and fallen objects such as carbide tooth, drill bit and

bearing which can't be carried out of hole by conventional fluid

circulation etc. It possesses important functions to keep hole cleaning,

increase bit service life, reduce and prevent drill bit from unexpected

damage.

2. Construction and Working Principle

2.1 Construction

LB type drilling Junk sub has two kinds of structures, integral

mandrel and two-body mandrel, see fig. 1 and 2.

2.2 Working Principle

Due to the fact that the body O.D. of junk sub is bigger and a

smaller annular space is available between body of junk sub and

well hole；the mandrel diameter at cup mouth is smaller so that it

has a bigger annular space，therefore，the fluid at the cup mouth

form a swirls and suddenly falls down so as to reduce the

carrying capacity. By this way，some heavy objects will drop in

cup and be fished out so that the purpose of cleaning hole.

3. Operation Method

3.1 The junk sub should be assembled on the top of the drill bit, flat

bottom milling shoe, scraper or junk basket.

3.2 Generally no more special operation, the junk sub can fishing

during the drilling. If specialized in fishing then wait the sand

flush out at well bottom, rotary it at well bottom, change the

displacement and flush few minutes, then pull out of the well.

3.3 Pay attention to the mouth of the junk sub to scrape casing shoe

during trip-out process.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Disassembly

After used, the junk sub should be cleaned with water, and then

disassembled by following steps.

4.1.1 For the integral mandrel: clamp the mandrel with the chain

tongs, and clamp the outer barrel with the other chain

tongs, and then rotate with right hand to remove the barrel.

Integral mandrel

4.1.2 For the two-body mandrel:

a) Clamp the mandrel with the chain tongs, and clamp the

outer barrel with the other chain tongs, and then rotate

with right hand to remove the barrel.

b) Heat the connection of mandrel and lower sub to about

220℃. Clamp the mandrel with the chain tongs, and

clamp the lower sub with the other chain tongs, and

then rotate with left hand to remove the sub.

c) Take out the seal ring on the mandrel.

4.2 Assembly

4.2.1 Clean all the disassembled parts.

4.2.2 Check all parts carefully, if found the damage, repair it then

repeat use it if the parts can be repaired, and otherwise

replace it with new one if over-repaired. The connect

thread and surface should be flaw detected, if found the

crack, replace the part.

4.2.3 After passing the inspection, reassemble the tool according

to the reverse order of the disassembly progress. All of the

seal rings should be replaced with new one.

4.3 Maintenance

After assembly, the tool should be equipped with thread

protectors, and properly stored in dry place to avoid dust and rust for

the next used.
