The Magician's Twin: C.S. Lewis and the Case against Scientism Uploaded by CS Lewis
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPeyJvXU68k

Lewis compared science to magic in the short film. He argued that science is similar to

religion. Science, like religion, gives us different understandings of what is going on in the

world. Science allows us to discover the unknown through unconventional means. Lewis went

on to explain that science is faith; it minimizes skepticism as a source of explanation for

everything. Finally, Lewis considered science to be the power because it carries the most

dangerous similarity to magic. This knowledge has the potential to change many people's lives

for the better or the worse, depending on who controls it. When comparing the two concepts, it is

clear that science, as compared to magic, can demonstrate what is real.

Based on the short film that I had watched, Lewis was never anti-science, but he was

against Scientism or the belief that modern science dictates world knowledge and that scientists

should make decisions about policymaking or even the extent of our moral values and religious

beliefs. As stated in previous topics, science is something that exists outside of a person's values

and morals to acquire knowledge. With this in mind, Lewis was accurate in his opposition to

Scientism. Science exists for everyone and is not a tool for manipulating society's values and

morals. It is up to scientists to decide how they will handle using science as a medium for

advancement. Even though science is outside the scope of morals, values, or religion, Lewis

wanted the pursuit of knowledge through science to be based on principles with potential

consequences soon.
Village of the Watermills One of the short films called ‘Dreams’ by Akiro Kurosawa

The short film depicts a contrast between the technologically driven life seen by

most people today and the village lifestyle, which is now considered primitive.

Based on the short film that I had watched, while technology has made our lives

easier, it has also disconnected us from the natural world. It's as if we're not a part of it.

Since the creation of man, the Earth has been in a never-ending cycle of creation and

destruction. While modernization appears to have made life easier, it has also created

distractions and removed one necessity that many people overlook: peace of mind. While

technology has made life easier, it has also created distractions and removed one

essentiality that many people require to survive: peace of mind. We must not allow

technology to blind us to the important aspects of life. Before it's too late, we should

enjoy our everyday lives and stop relying on things that will eventually be destroyed or

rendered useless.
