We always try to wonder that significant places are based on their history or how popular it is to the

people. But some people find places so significant because their souls have found where they
belong. “An old soul in an old city. “ This phrase had been with me as I was strolling down the
avenue inside the Walled City of Manila, the Intramuros. I have always been fascinated with old and
historical places because you can imagination what must had happened here or looking for traces
and symbols that could fit your understanding because looking at it from afar in books while drinking
your coffee is different from touching the stones of the past.

As I was entering Intramuros, I was engrossed with so many centuries-old houses and building
inside, in fact, this is a historic walled area in the City of Manila. From what I have learned, this was
the Central Government of the Spaniards when the country was still a colony of the Kingdom of
Spain because right beside the Manila Cathedral, which was our first stop, was the evidence of their
Government Building, the Palacio del Gobernador, which is now the headquarter of the Commission
of Election.

Looking at the façade of the Manila Cathedral, you know how much history it is carrying today, how
many memorable celebrations and events took place here, how many wars and disasters came yet
this building is a testament of time as it still standing while the other things and people come and go.
Inside the building, I got to touch the Mission Cross used during the World Youth Day, an event
when Pope John Paull II was in Manila. As I moved towards the Apse of the Church, I passed by and
touched the extending foot of an enthroned statue of St. Peter which is a replica of statue of St.
Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican. I made it to the altar, I was looking at the image of Mama Mary when
suddenly some person my eyes darted to

If only stones could talk, I might spend my whole life listening to their stories.
