2021 NATIONAL READING MONTH

“Bawat Bata Bumabasa sa Kabila ng Hamon ng Pandemya.”

KINDERGARTEN: Draw & Tell

MECHANICS
1. This category is open to all Kindergarten pupils of San Nicolas Elementary School,
Schools Division of Ilocos Norte.
2. Each contestant must provide his/her own paraphernalia.
3. The theme shall be focused on the content of the Learning amidst the Pandemic.
4. The Board of Judges shall comprise the Grade One Teachers and shall facilitate the
drawing of the lots and provide the necessary instructions for the smooth conduct of
the contest.
5. Drawing must come from the idea of the contestant.
6. Medium to be used is pencil & crayon on a one coupon bond.
7. Maximum time is 60 minutes (Draw).
8. The delivery is in any language for 3 minutes (Tell).

GRADE ONE: Poem Recitation

MECHANICS
1. The competition is open to GRADE 1 PUPILS OF SNES only.
2. The contestant shall recite the given poem, “Open a Book”, through the Google Meet.
3. The contestant’s camera shall be placed where the judges can see them wholly.
4. There shall be two (2) links; one (1) link will be for waiting room and one (1) link for
the competition room.
5. Each contestants shall be given a maximum of 10 minutes to recite the poem,
6. Contestants are not allowed to read from the text of the poem.
7. Violations to any of the abovementioned rules will lead to the disqualification of the
contestants.
8. The Board of Judges will comprise the Kindergarten Teachers.
9. Decision of the judges shall be final and non-appealable.
10. The competition shall be recorded.
11. The Top 3 winners shall be posted and awarded in school for recognition.
12. The Top 3 winners shall be recorded to be featured on the Culminating Program of
the 2021 National Reading Month.
13. The contest shall be simultaneously conducted at 1:00 PM.
14. Awarding shall be done after every contested activity is done.
15. The reserves the right to disqualify any entry that fails to abide by the stipulation
signified in this contest guideline.

GRADE TWO: Creative Storytelling

MECHANICS
1. Only Grade 2 learners of San Nicolas Elementary School are allowed to join the
contest.
2. Entries must be anchored on the theme of the Reading Month. Genres that may be
used are historical tales, oral histories, family stories, personal stories and proverbs.
3. Contestants will only be given 5 to 7 minutes for the presentation of the story.
4. The Board of Judges will comprise of the Grade 3 Teachers.
5. The decision of the judges are final and irrevocable.
6. The winner will be invited to perform their piece during activities of the School’s
Reading Month.

GRADE THREE: Spelling Bee
GUIDELINES
1. The pronouncer announces the word to be spelled. He speaks slowly and clearly,
without distorting the normal pronunciation of the word. He uses the word in a
sentence and says the word again.
2. The speller listens carefully to the pronouncer and asks for the word to be repeated if
necessary.
3. When the speller is sure she understands the word, she writes it on a white board and
show it after the time given.
4. The judges shall comprise of Grade 2 Teachers.
5. The judge(s) determines whether or not the word was spelled correctly.
6. If the correct spelling was given, the speller remains in the game.
7. If the spelling was incorrect, that speller is eliminated from the game. The judge gives
the correct spelling of that word. Then the pronouncer reads a new word to the next
student.
8. When there are only two spellers left, if one player misspells a word, the other player
must spell that word correctly, plus one more word to be declared the winner of the
spelling bee.

GRADE FOUR: Declamation

MECHANICS
1. Participants shall be given the piece “Vengeance is not Ours; It’s God’s!”
2. Participants shall memorize the piece and present on the day of the event.
3. Participants shall be in an appropriate costume and shall use props whenever
necessary.
4. The judges shall comprise of the Academic Teachers.
5. Upon submission of the results to the committee, judges’ decision shall be considered
final and irrevocable.
6. Only three (3) student declaimers shall be awarded as Champion, 1st Runner-Up, and
2nd Runner-Up.

GRADE FIVE: Poster-Slogan Making

MECHANICS
1. The Slogan and Poster Making contest is open to all Grade 5 learners of SNES.
2. All participants will provide their own art (colouring) materials and one whole size
white Cartolina;
3. All participants will make their own slogan and poster based on Learning amidst
Covid-19 global pandemic;
4. The entries must be done or completed on the same contest day;
5. All participants will picture and send their slogan or poster to the assigned teacher
through email;
6. There will be 3 winners; the winners will be based on rubrics;
7. The judges shall comprise of the Grade 6 teachers
8. The decision of the Judges will be final and irrevocable.

GRADE SIX: Essay Writing

MECHANICS
1. This Essay Writing Competition is open to all Grade 6 of SNES.
2. All entries must be written in English and must have at least 250 words and must not
exceed 600 words.
3. All essays must be original, relevant to the theme and previously unpublished.
4. All entries will be judged based on content, originality, structure and style.
5. All entries must follow the specifications below: Paper: Provided by the participants·
Margin: 1 inch margin on each side. Contains at least three (3) paragraphs.
6. The judges shall comprise of the Grade 5 Teachers.
7. The participants shall be given one (1) hour to write and finish their essay.
