Review:
Ask: What is the formula in finding the area of trapezoid?

Find the missing dimension of the trapezoid.

Base 1 Base 2 Height Area

5 cm 7 cm 4 cm
11 cm 20 cm 210 sq. cm
4m 3m 21 sq. m

Present a problem:
The lower and upper base is 6 cm and 5 cm respectively. If

lesson - What should you consider in solving this problem?
- How will you solve the problem?

The teacher will show pictures about the celebration of fiesta.

1. What is the celebration being show by the pictures?

2. What do people usually do during fiesta?
3. What will you do if you were given a task on the said
celebration?
C. Presenting examples/instances 4. Why is it to do a certain task willingly?
of the new lesson Present a problem:

During the celebration of the town fiesta, the officials hold

games in a trapezoidal field. If the bases of the field are 8
meters and 12 meters and the height is 4 meters, what is
the area of the trapezoidal field?

• What is being celebrated in the town?

• What did the town officials do to add color to the
festivity?
• What is the shape of the field?
• How long is the shorter base?
• How long is the longer base?
• What is the height?
• How do you find the area of a trapezoidal field?
Explain how to get the area of trapezoid.
A = (b1 + b2) (h)
2
= (8 m + 12 m) (4 m)
D. Discussing new concepts and 2
practicing new skills #1
= (20 m) (4m)
2
= 40 m2

Individual Activity:

A subdivision lot is shaped like a trapezoid. If the parallel

sides measure 53 meters and 78 meters and 30 meters apart,
E. Discussing new concepts and
practicing skills #2 what is the area of the lot?

A 5 – meter high trapezoidal wall has two parallel sides. The

lengths of the sides are 9.2 meters and 7 meters respectively.
What is the area of the wall?
Group Activity
(Rubrics will be set by the teacher and pupils)

Fast Learners:

Divide the class into four groups. Give each group a copy of
the guidelines for the math Trail. All members are responsible
for the work but the following tasks should be assigned:
Recorder, Timer, Reporter,
The goal of the group is to move from one station to the next
and perform the task in the shortest possible time. The group
with the most number of tasks done correctly in the shortest
possible time wins. These are the tasks for each station.

F. Developing mastery
Station 1
Lots in a newly opened subdivision in Barangay Magiting cost
PHP3 000 per square meter. What is the amount of a
trapezoidal lot if the two bases measure 10 meters and 5
meters and the distance between them is 7 meter?

Station 2
The height of the trapezoidal lot is 8 meters. If the area is
216 m2 and one of the bases is 9 meters, find the other base.

Station 3
The living room of Mrs. Sola’s house is in the shape of a
trapezoid with one of the parallel sides 4 meters long and the
other 6 meters long. The distance across these side is 7
meters. What is the area of a carpet that would fit the room?
Station 4
Lots in a subdivision cost PHP3 500 per square meter. How
much will Mrs. Vargas pay for a trapezoidal lot with parallel
sides 12 m long and 15 m long, if the sides are 18 m apart?

Average Learners:

Game: Climbing the ladder: Reaching for the star:

Materials: Chart drawing of ladder, red and white flaglets

Mechanics:
A. Divide the pupils into 2 groups.
B. Present the chart containing problems on trapezoid.
C. The first pupil who answer correctly will put the flaglet
one step of the ladder
D. The group who reaches the top is the winner. (See the
illustration below)

Sample Problems:
1. The parallel sides of a lawn are 8 m and 5 m in length.
the measurement between them is 6 m. What is the
area of the lawn?

2. One side of a trapezoidal vacant lot measures 18 m

and the side parallel to it is 16 m. The measure across
the lot is 20 m. How big is the area?

3. The area of a trapezoidal flower garden is 70 sq. m.

The length across the parallel sides is 7 m. If one of
the parallel sides is 8 m long, what is the length of the
opposite side?

How did we solve routine and on-routine problems

involving area of trapezoid?
G. Making generalizations and
abstractions about the lesson To solve routine and non-routine problems involving area of a
trapezoid
• Understand
• Plan
• Decide
• Look Back

Read, analyze and solve.
