OBJECTIVES : At the end of the lesson the students will be able to
- correctly use vocabulary related to education ;
- match the names of different places from a school to the given pictures;
- identify the correct types of schools;
-answer the questions after listening to a text about being an exchange student;
ASSUMPTIONS:

-students may have knowledge about the education system in Romania;


-students have read about different types of schools or have seen movies on the Internet;
ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS:
- some students may have difficulties in expressing their own opinions;
-some students may find difficulties in listening and understanding a material.

ACTIVITY 1: Warm-up
AIMS:-to reinforce pre-taught knowledge and to warm students up;
-to introduce the new topic: Education
INTERACTION: T-Ss, Ss-T
PROCEDURE: The teacher corrects the homework and checks students’ knowledge.
Teacher uses a quote to brainstorm students’ knowledge about education.
The given quotation is: The world is a book. And those who do not travel read only one page.
TIME: 5 minutes
CLASS ORGANIZATION: plenary
TEACHER AIDS: quote, flip –chart;

ACTIVITY 2: Lead–in
AIMS: - to express personal opinions about some pictures from the textbook;
- to make collocations related to job titles
INTERACTION: T-Ss, Ss-Ss. Ss-T
PROCEDURE: Students are asked to look at some pictures in the textbook and say what they have in
common. Then, they have to match words in order to make job titles.
Examples: university lecturer, primary school teacher, driving instructor, personal trainer, basketball
trainer, private tutor.
TIME: 5 minutes

TEACHING AIDS: blackboard, textbooks, notebooks;

ACTIVITY 3: Follow-up
AIMS: - to make up correct sentences using visual and linguistic support;
INTERACTION: T-Ss, Ss-Ss
PROCEDURE: The students have to match the places in a school to the pictures. In pairs, they have to
say how each place is used, using linguistic support.
Examples: A computer lab is used for doing research on the Internet.
A music room is used for having music lessons and practicing musical instruments.
The students continue doing this exercise until they finish all the situations. The teacher encourages
them to do their best.
TIME: 10 minutes

ACTIVITY 4: Practice
AIMS:
- to identify the correct types of schools;
- to complete sentences using expressions related to education;
INTERACTION: T-Ss, Ss-T Ss-Ss
PROCEDURE: Teacher presents some information related to the system of education in Britain.
Students use the given information in order to do a vocabulary exercise.
Teacher asks students to complete sentences using expressions related to education.
TIME: 10 minutes

ACTIVITY 5: Practice
AIMS: - to listen to a text for specific information
INTERACTION: T-Ss, Ss-T, Ss-Ss
PROCEDURE: The teacher asks the students to listen to a message about the pros and cons of being
an exchange student. Students listen to the message and in pairs, they do the exercises in the worksheet.
TIME: 15 minutes
CLASS ORGANISATION: pair work
TEACHING AIDS: computer, worksheets.

ACTIVITY 5: Homework assignment


AIMS: – to develop students writing skills.
INTERACTION: T-Ss
PROCEDURE: Teacher asks students to do an exercise dealing with words which are often confused.
Students have to choose the right word from the sentences.
TIME: 2 minutes

ACTIVITY 6: Evaluation
AIMS: – to end the lesson and give feedback.
PROCEDURE: Ss are given grades or they are appreciated accordingly
TIME: 3 minutes
