Document Development Exposition: White Paper

Explain in detail your document’s development from planning to finish, describing your
challenges, how you overcame them, and what you learned.

Planning
When planning my white paper, I decided on the topic of wind energy. I wanted to showcase its
positives in the renewable energy field, with a focus for environmental groups or agencies. An area
of challenge was brainstorming the primary areas of focus. I was able to overcome this by narrowing
it down into 4 topics, such as a breakdown of what wind energy is, its benefits, statistics, and
benefits over other types of renewable energy.

First Draft (for peer editing)

When making my first draft, I first started with finding a font, as well as adding my headers. Using my
assignment prep doc, I was able to fit my designed outline, adding a blue font to differentiate big
headers from smaller headers. A challenge I faced was looking for the right spots to include pictures,
but I was able to overcome this by resizing and adding space after each paragraph.

Second Draft (for your packet)

When making my second draft, I first started by removing the “H1” and “H2” labels in the table of
contents. I then ensured that my in-text citations were correct and included, with the proper credit
given.

Final Draft (for your portfolio)

When revising my second draft for my final portfolio, using the revision notes I received, I first
started by reformatting the images used in my document. I changed the photos to the correct visual
aid practice and deleted a reference figure because it was not referenced in my paper. I then started
to reformat the sections of my paper to the correct sections. It was configured to 1) the problem 2)
the solution 3) how the solution solves the problem. I made these changes to the table of contents
and added more information into some of the paragraphs to make a clearer stance. I then corrected
some punctuation errors and deleted un-needed indents. Lastly, I reconfigured the table of contents
to match the new format and page numbers.
