While enrolled in English 2116, I have come to learn a lot of new things.

I have
progressively seen my writing development improve and become better. Some ways this has
become better is that I feel that my writing skills have become more professional and oriented.
This is due to learning new layouts, writing for specific and new audiences, and learning the
different types of styles, such as the block style. At the beginning of the semester, my goal in
this course was to engage and better understand technical writing and to become a better
writer. In my personal opinion, I do believe I met this goal. I believe that I have grown to
understand more writing styles, and will be benefiting from this knowledge in the future, such as
in future classes or in my future career. Learning about technical writing is important because it
teaches how to write for specific audiences. It helps teach and combine good communication
and design skills. For me personally, I learned a lot from writing the white paper. The format of a
white paper is something I have never written before, so learning and engaging with new
information on how to write one was interesting to me. One of the biggest challenges I faced on
the assignments was implementing images to be together with the text, and not ‘floating’. The
assignment I would be most proud of would be the instructions and usability script. This
assignment was my favorite because I was able to write about any topic, and provide
instructions on it in a clear way. My instructions were on how to create a peanut butter and jelly
sandwich. I was able to write the instructions in a concise way that catered to all audiences, and
I actually had fun doing so. I liked reading revision comments from peers and through my
assignment grade, and I liked to look over and make corrections to better understand and learn.
If I could add any assignment to this course, it would be how to make a proper infographic. It
would lean more towards graphic design, but it would be nice to see how these infographics
work and how some are made to correlate to our eyes and their movement. This information
would be helpful to people who are interested or going to be working in the marketing or graphic
design field, for infographics have to contain a lot of information in a short way that isn’t long or
boring. If I could edit any assignment in this course, it would be the workplace correspondence
assignment. I would split the memo and email assignment into two separate assignments so I
could better understand them apart, and take the time into each one. Overall, I enjoyed this
course a lot! I was able to grow in my knowledge of technical writing and I feel better prepared
for the future. I will definitely be using these new skills in the workplace and I feel confident in
doing so.
