I believe that my writing has improved this semester as a whole and on certain individual
assignments. At the start of the semester, I feel my writing was not very professional and low
effort. Each assignment allowed for me to better write professionally, and I received feedback on
assignments on how certain ways of professional writing should look. For my writing
assignments, having peer reviews on my writing, peer reviewing the writings of other classmates,
and receiving feedback from my professor allowed me to grow as a writer and understand ways I
may need to write in my future career. I also feel that I could have done more with the feedback I
received. I could have met with the professor and asked for more personalized feedback or gone
to the writing center for more general feedback and learned from those experiences.
My main goal for the course was to learn more about professional writing. I also had the goal of
improving my writing, both informally and formally. The class provided me with information
and examples of many different forms of professional writing, from instruction manuals to white
papers. I received feedback that allowed me to reflect on the habits I had while writing and how
to improve them. Each major assignment followed a few smaller, more informative assignments
to help the students understand how to write for that specific assignment. This format allowed
me to work with my classmates and figure out what is expected on assignments when it comes to
professional writing.
The assignment I am most proud of is the white paper assignment. Although it took me longer
than expected and was unfinished when drafts were turned in, I was able to focus and complete
the assignment to the best of my ability. For the white paper assignment, I researched many
subtopics surrounding my main topic. The research I conducted was more professionally
conducted than on any assignment I have completed in the past. I was required to pose as an
employee for an organization or company that I would be writing for. I had to find an
organization that fit the topic I was writing and researching, and I had to use that organization as
inspiration for how to write the assignment. If I could add any assignment to this course, it would
be another technological assignment. I do not have a specific assignment in mind, but the AR
assignment/engagement project was very fun to complete and interesting to work on. Another
reason I would add another technological assignment is that the world is only going to continue
growing the use of advanced technology, where soon enough holograms could be teaching
classes, or everything could be processed via phones, laptops, and computers. If I could edit any
assignment in the course, it would be the instructions assignment. I thought the instructions
assignment was fun to work on and fun to share with classmates, but I would change one small
part of it, or add to it. I think that a group instructions project would be a good way to invoke
teamwork while completing the assignment. A student's future job may have them work with
their coworkers to write something and it would be a good experience to have for the students.
The group assignment could require more in-depth steps and/or be about a more difficult topic.
