MAKE A POM POM
FINISHED SIZE
2-1/2” diameter With worsted weight yarn, make a pom pom and use the length of twine to secure
it. Note: the twine will extend through the top of the hat, so use a color that you

HAT
Make a HAT
FINISHED SIZE: 4” (10 cm) tall With fingering weight yarn, cast on 36 stitches and divide onto 3 needles. Join in the
x 2.5” (6.5 cm) wide round. Place a beginning of the round marker.

GAUGE 14 sts = 2” (2.5 cm) in Set Up: K18, pm, k to end.

stockinette, knit in the round. Rounds 1-7: K to end, sm as you work.
Round 8: *K to 2 sts before m, k2tog, sm; repeat from * to end. (2 sts decreased)
NEEDLES Round 9: K to end.
US 3 (mm) double points or size

YARN 22 y (20 m) fingering
weight yarn.
NOTIONS 2 stitch markers
Round 36: *K2tog; repeat from * to end (4 sts).
Cut yarn and weave through live sts and secure tightly. Weave in ends. Wet block to
desired size.

GNOME FINISHING
MATERIALS
+ 0.8” diameter half wooden ball
+ Small amount of stuffing
+ Yarn needle
+ Hot glue gun + glue
ASSEMBLE GNOME
With yarn needle, thread the twine of the pom pom through the inside of the hat and
through the top point. Position the hat on the pom pom and use hot glue to secure
the back of the hat to the back of the pom pom. Once dry, add a bit of filling to the
hat. Then, turn to the front of your gnome and glue the nose to the pom pom. Pull
the hat slightly over the nose and use hot glue to secure.
