Whistleblower

First, I will give a definition of a whistleblower. A whistleblower is an

employee or former employee of a government business or agency who
exposes any kind of information or activity that is deemed illegal, unethical, or
not correct within an organization that is either private or public.

Denouncing the secrets of a company can have very dramatic

consequences for the whistleblower or the companies themselves. You have to
be brave enough to spread secret information to big companies. I'm going to
introduce some whistleblowers, who I think are the most famous for their
informations.

Edward Snowden is a former assistant analyst who leaked classified

government documents regarding mass surveillance from the National Security
Agency. The information did not just affect the United States as it disclosed
information about surveillance on many different European countries,
including some allies his actions have sparked the debate over government
monitoring individual privacy and even national security and has been branded
as both a hero and a traitor.

Bradley Manning Chelsea (Manning is a transgender) is responsible for

the largest leak of government document in history via Wikileaks. (Wikileaks is
an international non-profit organisation that publishes secret information.)
Many of these documents, including 500 000 army reports describe military
operations and airstrike's during the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars.

The protection of whistleblowers is different in different countries. For

example, in the private sector, the United States promises the employee
protection against retaliation by their employer. On April 28, 1971 an agency of
the Ministry of Labor was created (OSHA) to deal with whistleblower
complaints. In France, 6 laws were created to protect whistleblowers. There is
the law « Sapin II », for example "The identity of the whistleblower cannot be
disclosed without his authorization"

As I see it that whistleblowers are a good thing because they put their
own lives in danger. They tell the truth to the whole world and save people.
They denounce the illegal actions of the many companies. But by confessing
the truth to the whole world, they put their lives in danger. They may receive
threats of death or threats to their families.
On one side, we can see the whistleblowers as heroes and on the other
hand, we can see them as traitors because they denounce corporate secrets.
