Factorising Strategy

5 x 18 =
I can factorise the larger number in the problem down to 3 x 6
So, 5 x 18 = 5 x (3 x 6)
Which can be re-arranged into (5 x 6) x 3 = (30) x 3
30 x 3 = 90

Factorise the larger numbers down, to solve:

9x5= 6x7=

18 x 3 = 25 x 3 =

12 x 4 = 13 x 5 =

16 x 4 = 12 x 9 =

Factorising Strategy (2-digit)

18 x 20 =
20 can be factorised into 20 = 10 x 2 or 4 x 5
So 18 x 20 can be solved by 18 x 2 x 10
18 x 2 = 36, so 36 x 10 = 360
Therefore 18 x 20 = 360

Use factorising to solve - show your working out:

21 x 20 = 43 x 20 =

28 x 20 = 22 x 20 =

52 x 20 = 73 x 20 =

81 x 20 = 12 x 20 =

Factorising Strategy (Challenge)

5 x 18 =
I can factorise the larger number in the problem down to 3 x 6
So, 5 x 18 = 5 x (3 x 6)
Which can be re-arranged into (5 x 6) x 3 = (30) x 3
30 x 3 = 90

Use factorising to solve - show your working out:

12 x 25 = 16 x 25 =

24 x 15 = 72 x 15 =

16 x 45 = 12 x 15 =

36 x 15 = 12 x 25
