Differentiated Lesson Plan - 905- Dash, N

For this assignment, I chose a lesson created by one of my Kindergarten colleagues at my

school.

According to Tomlinson (n.d.), “differentiation means tailoring instruction to meet individual needs.”
Four classroom elements that teachers can differentiate based on student readiness, interest, and learning
profile include content, process, products and learning environment (Tomlinson, n.d.).

I differentiated the Hunter’s Best Friend at School lesson plan with my current Kindergarten Class in
mind. This year, my class is very diverse and consists of fourteen learners between the ages of 5 and 6 years.
There is an Education Assistant, Behaviour Support Worker, Speech and Language Pathologist, English
Language Learner teacher, and Learning Services Teacher that regularly support various students in my class.
My class thrives on routines, visuals, and timers. They enjoy art, music, and movement. To meet the needs of
my diverse learners, I differentiated content, process, products, and the learning environment in the following
ways:

Content:
• Hunter’s Best Friend at School book made available at listening station (cd + book + headphones)
• Multiple copies of Hunter’s Best Friend at School made available for use during Gr. 3 reading buddies
• Song (presenting ideas for auditory learners)
Process:
• Tiered activities- different levels of support, challenge, or complexity
• Small cards with pictures (from power point)
• EA scribes
• playdough available
• whiteboard and pens
• iPad
Product:
• Students can choose how to share what they have learned
• Print letters/words + draw pictures
• iPad to take picture (with voice recording) or video
• Playdough

Learning Environment:
• Offering a variety of tools and spaces to work
• Mini carpets
• Big Carpet
• Hooki Stools
• Book Nook
• Variety of tables
• Smart Board
