Write a summary paper on the salient points of Philippine literature under the Spanish
colonization.

The prohibition of indigenous Philippine writing began in the sixteenth century, and it
needed the intervention of Spanish colonial authorities to put an end to it. They were able
to control literature by having religious orders dominate it. The Roman Catholic Church,
as well as Spanish/European culture, are frequently featured in literature.

•In 1593, the Dominican press issued a Christian Doctrine or Doctrina Christiana, the first
book printed in the Philippines, demonstrating the impact of Spanish colonization.

They approved the publication of Bienvido Lumbera's "May Bagyo Ma't May Rilim," but
the Christian content was presented in a colonial setting, denying the Filipinos' historical
context. Spaniards were also, in my opinion, seeking to hide their purpose of exploiting
Filipino authors in Spanish to expand their colony by giving the Filipinos the impression
that they were recognized. Even if the writers in Fernando Bagongbanta's Memorial de la
vida Cristiana en la lengua tagala provided Tagalog translations for the Spanish lines, the
superiority of the Spanish language was acknowledged. It's never the format that causes
a problem.

Despite being influenced by the Spanish Christian environment, I believe that one of the
literary genres, pasyon, absorbed a variety of Filipino moods and ideals (the feeling of
Filipino mother towards a suffering son). Previously loyal Filipino authors in Spanish
acknowledged the necessity for freedom. That is, at least, how the majority of stories go.
The epic poem got involved in social themes after the modern pasyon dealt with topics of
revolution and liberty. Filipino authors frequently challenge societal expectations.
Marcelo H. is a writer who
lives in Brazil. Brazilian writer who lives in Rio de Janeiro. is a Rio de Janeiro-based
Brazilian writer. One of them was Del Pilar. Pasyon Dapat Ipag-alab ng Puso was a
perfect example of his rebellious literary approach. He asked that Filipinos avoid the
convent and that the film Patnubay ng Binyagan by Pascual Poblete be prohibited. He
even made a comparison between the Filipinos' struggle for independence and the life of
Jesus. The Filipinos' rejection of Spanish rule was helped by Jose Rizal's works Noli Me
Tangere and El Filibusterismo. He also had an impact on other authors. The worlds of
royals, soldiers, and lovers were explored in Awit and corridor, two narrative poems (the
basic concept in Florante at Laura). They started off as oral literature and were later
printed in novena-sized booklets. The komedya drama was based on it as well. Francisco
Baltazar's Florante at Laura expressed the concept of colonization and tyranny, giving
voice to their revolutionary struggle for freedom.

•While under Spanish rule, it is reasonable to assert that Spanish colonization prepared
the path for the idea of opening the Filipinos' nationalistic character through literature
(e.g. forced labor and the execution of GOMBURZA priests).
