1.) What is digital and cyber Security?


Digital Security is the protection of one’s digital personality, as it represents the physical
identity on the network you are operating on or the internet service in use. Cyber
security is the application of technologies, processes and controls to protect systems,
networks, programs, devices and data from cyber attacks. It aims to reduce the risk of
cyber attacks and protect against the unauthorised exploitation of systems, networks
and technologies.

2.) Media Literacy can be Defined in several ways, How Hobbs (1998) defined
Media Literacy?
According to Hobbs (1998) Media Literacy is a term used by modern media scholars to
refer to the process of critically analysing and learning to create one’s own messages
in print, audio, video, and multimedia.

like internet platforms, social media, and mobile devices.

In order to be literate in today’s media-rich environments, people need to develop
knowledge, values and a whole range of critical thinking, communication and

To differentiate these two literacies, Technology literacy is the ability to understand the
internet, manipulate the gadgets that interact with it, and use it as a way to get
information. And/or the Knowledge and understanding of the hardware and software
machinery used by the media. While digital literacy is the ability to locate, evaluate,
create and communicate information on various digital platforms. And it refers to the
basic knowledge an individual must possess when it comes to using communication
and information technologies in our ever-growing digital world.

The digitally literate person is known for being skilled to create, evaluate, and
communicate information through the use of various digital platforms.

2.) As a future educator, how will you deal the challenges of using digital literacy
in education?

As educators, I will deal with the challenges of using digital literacy in education by
expanding instruction using digital platforms. I will offer support for the needs of my
students. When they connect with their peers, it puts my students at ease, keeping
learning fun and interesting for all ages. Importantly, as educators, I am responsible to
bring the purpose of digital literacy in education correctly and safely.

The difference between digitally literate and digital natives is that, Digitally literate is
defined as the ability to use computers or use the internet, while digital natives refers to
the generation that was born during the information age and who has not known a world
without computers, the internet, and connectivity.

possess?

One of the characteristics that a responsible digital literate should possess is to take
part in online community life safely, ethically and respectfully. Also, Responsible digital
literates behave respectfully, protect their reputations and privacy, watch their tone, and
are sceptical.

The difference between media literacy and cyber literacy is that, media literacy has the
ability to identify different types of media and understand the messages that are
communicating, including who is the intended audiences and what is the motivation
behind the message. While cyber literacy has the ability to evaluate, create and
communicate various digital platforms. In short, media literacy is the holistic study of
media and in its various forms while cyber literacy focuses on teaching how to use
digital tools/platforms. And they are both related in that they both teach individuals how
to interact with the media.

Some misconceptions about Media literacy is that it does not need credibility when it
comes to spreading information. Also, the thinking that media is a tool or a curriculum
will necessarily solve anything.

7.) Most of the time being literate digitally individual is beneficial to our day to day
living. But does being digital literate can be harmful too? Why or why not?

Yes, being digitally literate can be harmful because it seems that individuals, especially
students use different digital platforms inappropriately in terms of creating content,
posting bad comments and spreading fake news. It is also a threat to our health that we
can have developmental problems, physical inactivity, obesity, and inadequate sleep
quality because of the attention we are given to the digital world.
8. What is the main reason why it's vital for an individual to be digitally literate?

The main reason why it's vital for an individual to be digitally literate is it allows us to
find, use & create info online in a productive & useful way. Having an understanding
about digital literacy means we’re able to use technology safely and it helps us avoid its
dangers.

9. What are the most common advantages of being literate individual?

The most common advantages of being a literate individual is it promotes broader


critical thinking and develops digital skills.

10. Are digitally nativer also digitally literate too?why or why not?

No, because digital natives are not familiar with educational technologies. Even though
they grew up with the presence of digital technology. However, They need to be made
aware of and taught about educational technologies. They are able to adopt new
technologies into their learning quite easily. Self-perception measures indicate that
digital natives can be taught digital literacy.

The cyber/digital literacy that is discussed is the different definition that is justified by
some authors. For instance, Paul Gilster (1997) formally defined digital literacy as the
ability to understand and use information in multiple formats from a wide range of
sources when it is presented via computers. It also discusses the skills and
competencies comprising digital literacy from contemporary scholars on the matter into
four groups which are underpinnings, background knowledge, central competencies and
attitude and perspective. And the challenges to digital literacy in education as well as
the digital natives.

They are both related Because both digital and media literacy are fairly new concepts. It
is generally agreed that skills and competencies for digital literacy and media literacy
are closely related to each other and to additional “21st-century” skills that are needed

These literacies help students in a way that can increase student engagement. In
addition, it helps students work through difficult concepts with multiple resources. Digital
resources help show difficult topics that are often hard to understand. And this is the
beauty of media and digital literacy

digital literacies in today's society?

Advantages that often come with people who are digitally literate is that they are well
informed and educated about current events because they have digital devices like
smartphones and computers to access the internet. The internet provides up to date
news about everything that happens locally, nationally and globally through news
articles, blog posts, social media accounts and other applications like the news app,
weather app, etc. Another advantage is that digital literacy increases collaboration.
People all over the world, near and far get to join together online to work and
communicate through their computer and smartphones. While the disadvantages are
the diversity of learning and teaching tools, it can develop cheating, distraction,
spreading fake news and negatively impacting the writing and communication skills.

consumers Use to evaluate information in an educated and effective manner” In effect,
Information Literacy acts as a filter by which consumers evaluate the veracity Of the
information being presented to them via digital media and thereupon Sort the

The importance of media and cyber/digital literacy in today’s society is that it helps
individuals and learners utilize critical thinking skills to evaluate the quality of digital
sources and information, which in turn helps society communicate better. By teaching
media and digital literacy to learners, they are being prepared to enter adulthood and be
successful in their careers.
