dancing. I specialize in ballroom dancing as well as in wedding

and I can't wait to meet you!

You read the following post on the internet forum Someone’s in Trouble:
What happens when you know your friend could be in serious trouble and doesn’t
want to listen? That was what I suddenly found myself dealing with and, for the first
time in my friendship with Bridget, I feel lost.
A few months ago, Bridget started flirting with some guy on a chat forum. At first, it
seemed like no big deal. Bridget and the guy didn’t know each other’s real names. All
Bridget knew was that he lived in New York. But, after a while, Bridget stopped being
careful and started calling the guy on her cell phone and they talked every day for
hours. I found out the guy told her that he was 29 years old and had been arrested
twice and was temporarily living in a residential program. Bridget finds that fascinating
and sees herself as the heroine of one of her favorite soap operas. Although she
heard a lot about people getting into trouble online, she said that this was different and
if I couldn’t understand, then maybe we were growing apart or I was just jealous.
Is there anything I could tell her to convince her? Do you think she is in danger or is it
just me exaggerating?

I’m in a local teen theatre group and we regularly perform contemporary musicals.
There has been talk going around that some members have been exempted from
auditions for the last few productions. I know in the “real world” that can happen
sometimes: well known actors and singers sometimes get bumped up into the cast
without having to try out. But this isn’t Broadway and the whole idea is to give
everyone a chance to prove him- or herself.
Can you imagine my surprise when my friend Eve, who helps out in the director’s
office as a part-time assistant, told me that the director wanted to see me on Monday
because I was in for one of the main singing parts in the next production. At first I
didn’t quite get it and was ecstatic as it was the role I wanted more than any other.
But then I realized it meant I didn’t have to audition. Eve explained that the director
simply didn’t have enough time to do auditions for everyone and he knew I was
right for the role. “The rest of the cast don’t need to know. This often happens with
the strongest performers. Just skip the audition and we’ll take care of the rest,” she
said.

You have found the following story on the Public Morals Forum for young people on the

CELIA
Friday 07:12 PM
A boy in my class called Devon Redcliff was recently elected school president of the school. He chose
a student senate including me to serve under him, whose job would be to help make all decisions that
affect the student body. We were to take up our positions in the fall. Devon is well liked in the school
community and respected by both students and teachers. Everything seemed perfect for the start of the
new school year.
The weekend after his election Devon made a dumb mistake. He signed out with some friends to
celebrate in town and came back blind drunk. When he bumped into the teacher on duty in his dorm,
he tried to apologise but he couldn’t even speak clearly. In the morning he was asked to meet with both
the current senior class president with her senate and Devon’s incoming senate. Here is where things
got messy. The current senate seemed to be really impressed that this had been Devon’s first offense
against school rules. Also, that he was honest enough to admit he’d been drunk (not that there could
be any doubt).
I must say that I totally disagree with this and other members of the incoming senate support me. Some
of us even feel betrayed, particularly because we are still being reviewed by the teachers and Devon
himself to see if we are “worthy to serve our community” while he is apparently allowed to break a rule
before taking office. We feel Devon should be removed from his position and a new election conducted.
The school community is up in arms now. Half the school agrees with the old student government and
the other agrees with us. What decision would serve the school community best?

I have started my second term in college sharing an apartment with three other guys and
I’m coping all right. However, when I last went home for the weekend I had a bitter
argument with my mum (fuelled by my stepfather) concerning privacy. It all started
when my mum found my name on a list on the homepage of the university and found out
that I had changed majors (I took up sociology instead of modern languages). I was really
disappointed when they questioned me about it and I told them that they should trust me
and rely on what I tell them instead of checking on me like that. Apparently they believe
that they should still have a say in everything concerning my studies, including my
choice of major, and that they have a right to see my grades. I can understand that they
want to be involved (especially as they're paying the bill), and I don’t tell them lies, nor
do I hide anything from them deliberately but I believe that at 19 I’m supposed to be
treated like an adult and given the right to decide what I do and don’t want to share with
them. I wonder how they would feel if I asked them to call a teacher when I’m having
trouble in a class or contact the dean if I have a disciplinary problem? They say that
they’re giving me ‘reasonable guidance’ but I see it as intrusion. What do you think?

There are certain times when you know things have gone from really bad to out of
control. The party started out fine, like they always do. And things got a little crazy,
like they always do. But my girlfriend, Sarah had way too much alcohol and was sick
for an hour, going in and out of consciousness. There were no adults around and we
were at somebody’s vacation home, miles from the nearest town.
Someone said we should call 911 but one of the girls said that we’d only get
ourselves into a lot of trouble. ’My parents mustn’t know I’m even here! If they find
out, this will be my last time out of the house before I leave for college!’ she said, and
most people agreed.
I felt more scared than ever before in my life. I had this gut feeling that Sarah could be
more ill than any of us could deal with, and if we didn’t get help she might even die.
But what if I was wrong? What if everything got better in an hour and everyone hated
me for making a huge deal out of just a “bad situation” at a party? Eventually I kept
quiet and luckily Sarah was ok when she woke up the following morning. She had no
idea what had happened and I haven’t told her although I’m feeling guilty and I’m sure
it was a narrow escape.

The Sherlock Holmes Museum is a popular London attraction with an international clientele from all

Applicants should have an interest in the late Victorian period, be out-going and friendly and must

A costume consisting of a long blue dress and white apron, in keeping with the Victorian period, is

There is the option to work part-time or full-time. The starting pay is £80.00 per day.

I make friends easily and by the end of my first week I knew everyone’s name in the restaurant.
One member of the kitchen staff called Rose had been working at the restaurant for four years
chopping vegetables for the salad bar and was especially kind to me. One night she casually
mentioned her hourly wage in the middle of a conversation and I felt my stomach turn over. It was
half of what I was making and she’s 35 with two young children. I felt guilty, ashamed and also
angry. How could that even happen?
When I tried to talk to Rose about it, she grew uncomfortable and nervous. “Please don’t say
anything to the boss, Brian. Anyone who complains from the kitchen is usually fired.”
Apparently, by taking a stand and saying something I could make things even harder and more
unfair for Rose and the rest of the kitchen staff. However, by staying silent I’m allowing that
injustice to carry on. If nobody is going to do anything, how can things ever change?

Dear Ms Sounders,
Task B
You have read the following story on a website called Moral Dilemmas:
Andrew:
Recently, two of my classmates posted a web site that openly attacks some of
our classmates, using explicit and offensive language.
Several weeks ago I learned the identities of the boys who created the website
when one of them accidentally said something in a conversation. The two of
them then pressured me not to reveal their names and I agreed, not thinking
much about it at the time.
Now, the school principal has obtained a program that enables him to identify
anybody who has visited the website. He’s asking students to come forward with
the names of the creators of the site, and if no one does, he’s going to question
each student who visited the site. I’m one of those who did visit the site and
maybe the only one who knows the names of the kids who created it. I can lie
and say I don’t know, or I can break my promise not to tell. Or is there anything
else I can do?

Hi Don,
Task B
You have found the following question on a problem page called Modern Morals on the
internet:
Last Saturday I went to a party with my cousin, Chris. It was quite a long way and there was
no public transport in the area so I was happy when Chris said that his dad, my Uncle Joe,
would drive us both home at the end of the party. When he arrived to pick us up and I was
climbing into the car, there was this strong smell of alcohol; it was like walking into a pub.
Chris behaved as if he hadn’t noticed anything, not even when Joe started to drive much too
fast, laughing and joking.
I’m quite close to my parents and they’ve often told me never to get in a car with someone
who has been drinking. They have also told me if I ever feel uncomfortable I should call
home and they will pick me up, no questions asked. But what if the driver is family?
Eventually we got home safe and I haven’t told anyone, but now I wonder whether I should
have behaved differently or if there’s something I should do now. What do you think?

Dear Ms Miller,
Task B
You found the following letter on the internet forum called Modern Morals:
This is a bit of a dilemma for me. I do quite a lot of gardening for my grandma, who lives alone
and is in her 70s. Recently a fairly loud, young family have moved in next door. They are
constantly having parties, mostly in the garden, the children shout and throw stuff over the fence,
and they keep allowing their dogs to escape into my grandma’s garden and make a mess there.
She has tried to talk to them once or twice but they simply ignore her. This, as you can imagine,
stresses her quite badly.
She also mentioned another neighbour, a middle-aged man, who had complained about them, so I
decided I’d better go and visit him. He was very happy that someone else was taking an interest
in the constant noise and disruption. He told me that complaining to the council was our best bet,
as in these cases the police only “act in an advisory capacity”. However, when I called him the
following day to tell him that I had taken steps, he was very irritated. He claimed that he didn’t
want to escalate the situation, and that he thought my contacting the council would simply make
things worse. To be honest, I’m very frustrated as members of my own family had the same
attitude: they said that I should just let things alone.
What should I do, and am I right to feel very annoyed at everyone’s attitude?

summer holiday working for a charity organisation. She has also enclosed the advertisement

CV, as well as a chance to make some life-long friends and have fun along the way.
Write a letter of about 230 words to Gemma in which you include the following points:
• Your opinion about working for charity and non-profit organisations in general.
• What you think of this particular job offer.
