Muluken Melesse
I am writing to apply for “PhD data driven assessment of drought risk in east
Africa for doctoral program in thematic area of Water and Environmental
Engineering.

I have been graduated with Master of Science in Civil Engineering, specialized in

Hydraulic Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Water supply and Environmental
Engineering from Addis Ababa University and ArbaMinch University of Water
technology Institute respectively. I am a Lecturer in DebreBrihan University,
DebreBrihan, Ethiopia in the Department of Civil Engineering.

From the date of my employment until now I had taught many water engineering
courses and have conducted researches, projects and supervised thesis works of
under graduate students. I have also a diversified work experience related with all
other Civil Engineering projects in the fields and sites.

I would appreciate the opportunity of participation in the Doctor of Philosophy in PhD

data driven assessment of drought risk in east Africa , since I am from Ethiopia I am
very aware of drought and climate related issues with in east Africa and also it would
be an efficient and successful method of improving my professional career and
Technical skills in tackling drought and flooding problems in east Africa.
As I am always passionate and ready for the collaborative and team spirited research
works, it will pave a way to contribute my potential and devotion to Water and
Environmental engineering.
 I believe that the experiences mentioned in my curriculum vitae would make me a
candidate to participate for the Doctor of philosophy Program at your university.
Moreover, It would welcome the opportunity to enhance my research experience at
your facilities, since your university has a great reputation in the field of Water and
Environmental Engineering. I would like to emphasize that I am highly ambitious to
benefit from this programme, as It would let me to know many researchers from all
over the world, exchanging practical experience and bring an excellent opportunity to
meet various people, spend quality time with them and learn about their customs,
attitudes, lifestyle, etc.
Furthermore, living, studying and socializing within international scholars would
broaden my horizons and enable me to build a very strong Academic network with
people throughout Europe and the World.
