CONCEPT NOTE FOR TRAINING OF FP FOCAL POINT ON SAYANA PRESS (DMPA-SC)

I. INTRODUCTION

Rwanda has committed to improve FP service deliverly ,access, uptake, by increasing

health facilities ,skilled health care providers ,and extending the available FP contraceptive

methods mix ,including emergency contraceptive in order to decrease unmet need for
FP.To increase the range of contraceptive methods MOH/RBC in collaboration with its

Partners trained national trainers on counselling and provision of new contraceptive

method Sayana press(DMPA- SC) .The ultimate goal of the training was to expand a wide

range of Contraceptive method and offer to clients more choices Therefor ,The scale up
of Sayana press(DMPA-SC )through training of health care providers from hospitals and

health centers will enable participants to be updated on current FP situation from

DHS2109/2020 and FP strategic policy. MOH/RBC in collaboration with USAID Ingobyi

Activity will make this possible by supporting the training of health care providers in
Nyagatare District .

PERIODE: 6th to 7th september 2021

II. TRAINING OBJECTIVES

▪ To build the competency of health care providers on individual and couple

counseling
▪ to strengthen health care provider’s skills to provide Sayana Press (DMPA-SC)
 as new FP contraceptive method

▪ To increase the number of health care providers able to provide this new
modern FP contraceptive method.

▪ To support FP focal person to train peers on Sayana press FP method provision

▪ To prepare the health facilities on how FP clients can use the new method

(Sayana Press ) through self-injection.

II. PARTICIPANTS
One participant (FP focal person) per health center and 2 persons per hospital. The total

number is 24 participants from all HFs in Nyagatare District.

III. TRAINING METHODOLOGY

During this training the following methodology will be used

✓ Brainstorming

✓ Group discussion
✓ Group work

✓ Demonstration
✓ Role plays

✓ Practice exercises on anatomic models

IV. MATERIALS
• Stationary material for training

• Anatomic models
• Samples of Sayana Press (DMPA-SC)
V.PROPOSED TRAINERS/FACILITATORS

The training will be facilitated by 4 trainers recently trained as district trainers on Sayana
Press as new FP contraceptive methods counselling and method provision .

▪ Mukayiranga Jeanette from Mimuli HC

V. TASKS FOR HOSPITAL

▪ Gatunda and Nyagatare DHs will facilitate the training by inviting participants and
trainers.

▪ Request of samples of Sayana press and other materials for practical session.

VI. LOGISTICS
All training logistics will be provided by USAID Ingobyi Activity including transportation

fees, lunch and refreshment for trainers and participants accordingly.
