 6 pt spacing shall be given after headings and paragraphs.
 1 cm indentation shall be given at the beginning of each paragraph.
 Preparation of sketches should be done neatly with proper headings and details.
Care should be taken to see that SI units only are used in the illustrations.
 Each chapter should be given appropriate title.
 Tables & figures in a chapter should be placed near the reference where they are
cited.
 Footnotes should be used sparingly. They should be typed single space and placed
directly underneath in the very same page which refers the material they annotate
 Literature Survey should contain the information about existing system details of
the project, Drawbacks of the existing system, Aim and objective of the new
system, Method of the new approach, Application area and the reference from
IEEE PAPER / Journals.
 Design and Development must contain the information about Block Diagram of
the Project, Circuit Diagrams, Design concepts and Equations, Hardware

 The conclusion should contain the details about the demonstration of the first
phase project work and the achievements related to the aim and objective of the
project work done so far.
 Appendix and Annexure, containing supplementary material, source codes, flow
charts, if any, can be after the references.

4.13 Numbering Sections, Subsections, Equations, Figures etc.

It is common practice to use decimal numbering in the thesis. If the chapter number is
2, the sections of the chapter will carry the numbers 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 etc. The subsections
in section 2.2 will be numbered as 2.2.1, 2.2.2 etc. It is recommended to keep the
maximum depth of the table of contents to this level (level 3). Differentiation of the
deeper subsections can be achieved by boldfaced sentence case titles.

Equations
All equations must be clearly set and numbered. Use equation editor as far as possible
and set the font size to 12 points (which is the default font size). When referring to the
equations in the text, preface the number with the word ‘Eqn.’ and place the number
within brackets. Thus, for example, Eqn. (1.1). Equations should be numbered as
(1.1), (1.2), (1.3), etc. The first number represents the chapter number. The numbers
should appear at the extreme right end of the line. Do not set them in bold or italics
type. Ensure that subscripts and superscripts are legible. The equations in the
appendices can be numbered with A., B., C., etc. as prefixes.

Tables
By the word Table, is meant tabulated numerical data in the body of the project report
as well as in the appendices. Tables must be set as part of the text. Smaller font sizes
may be used to enable the table to fit the space. All tables must have a caption. The
caption should be kept above the table and centred. If the caption runs into more than
one line, keep it justified at both ends. Captions should be numbered sequentially
starting with number 1. Thus, for example, “Table 1.1: Input data”. Leave 12 pt space
above and below tables. Large tables may be set in a landscape mode, i.e. sideways on
the page, reading up. The tables in the appendices can be numbered with A., B., C.,
etc. as prefixes.

PROCEDURE MANUAL
GUIDELINES FOR SEMINAR/PROJECT REPORT PREPARATION

Figures
All other non-verbal materials used in the body of the project work and appendices
such as charts, graphs, maps, photographs and diagrams may be designated as figures.
These should be neat and clear. They should be positioned centrally on the width of
the page and close to their text reference. They should not appear on the opening page
(first page) and must fit within the page text size. Try to avoid boxing text between
two illustrations on a page as this can sometimes make reading more difficult. Ensure
that all spelling and annotations (numbers, letters, symbols and captions) conform to
their usage in the text.
Captions to figures, (diagrams and/or illustrations) should be set text size and centred
below the figure. If the caption is more than one line in length, follow the alignment
style as given in the table captions above. All figures must be numbered sequentially
starting with the number 1. Thus, for example, Figure 1.1: Velocity fields. Leave 12
points above and below each figure/illustration.
The figures in the appendices can be numbered with A., B., C., etc. as prefixes.

4.14 LIST OF REFERENCES

A list of references must be included with every report and placed at the end.
The listing should be typed a space below the heading ‘REFERENCES’. References
should be numbered in Arabic numerals starting from 1, in the order in which they are
referred to in the thesis. A typical reference in the body of the thesis will appear as “as
stated by Knuth et al. [3] or in [3] or [3-5]”. All the articles in the list should be
referred at least once in the thesis text.
1. Journals.
Author(s): Surname, then initial(s)
Year of Publication
Title of Article (italics)

4.15 APPENDICES
Appendices are provided to give supplementary information, which is
included in the main text may serve as a distraction and cloud the central theme
(Datasheets, IEEE Paper / Journals, Software codes, etc.…).
 Appendices should be numbered using Arabic numerals, e.g. Appendix 1,
Appendix 2, etc.
 Appendices, Tables and References appearing in appendices should be numbered
and referred to at appropriate places just as in the case of chapters.
 Appendices shall carry the title of the work reported, and the same title shall be
made in the contents page also.
4.16 PRINT OUT IN LARGE SIZE PAPERS
If data (like CAD drawing, software outputs, etc.) needs to be printed in larger sized
papers due to space constraints in an A4 sheet, larger-sized sheets (like A3, A2, etc.)
may be used. These should be attached along with the main report as Appendix. If the
number of non-A4 sheets is more than five sheets, it can be bound separately (if
needed). Otherwise, the sheets should be carefully folded and bound along with the
main report.
