Well, perhaps no. This is because wherever you go with an aim to accomplish your
academic and career goals, their will be people around, and there has to a good
communication system running between you and the others. If you do not do so, then
things might get difficult and people might take you wrongly - thinking that you are
proud or rude or ignorant and boastful. There might be a lot of misunderstandings due to
those misconceptions running within. People always expect a certain interaction, so most
of the times it is wise to create a proper communication channel, to receive cooperation
and help, whether in personal or professional work-life.

 Perceptual Barriers-- are internal. If you go into a situation thinking that the person you
are talking to isn't going to understand or be interested in what you have to say, you may
end up subconsciously sabotaging your effort to make your point.

 Emotional Barriers- are mental walls that keep you from openly communicating your
thoughts and feelings to others. They prevent you from being yourself and living your life
to the fullest. Individuals with emotional barriers tend to be extremely reserved, cautious,
and insecure. As a result, they may find it challenging to effectively express themselves –
whether it’s through their work or through interpersonal communication.

Be aware of the feelings that arise in yourself and in others as you communicate and
attempt to control them.

 Cultural Barriers- Owing to cultural differences between people, communication is not


always effective. Cultural barriers in communication ought to be dealt with efficiently, in

 Language Barriers- Language is needed for any kind of communication, even people
with speech impairments communicate with sign language and brail. Communication
becomes difficult in situations where people don’t understands each other’s‟ language.

communication. Language are the most common communication barriers which cause
misunderstandings and misinterpretations between people.

 Gender Barriers-- These barriers arises because men and women have different ways
of thinking and communicating. When men and women take personality tests, some of
the old Mars-Venus stereotypes keep reappearing. On average, women are more

competitive, assertive, reckless and emotionally flat. Clear differences appear in early

a) Vertical Communication. Up and down- Information moving from lower-level
employees to high-level employees is upward communication (also
sometimes called vertical communication). For example, upward

b) Horizontal Communication- Horizontal communication is the transmission
of information between people, divisions, departments or units within the
same level of organizational hierarchy. You can distinguish it from vertical
communication, which is the transmission of information between different
levels of the organizational hierarchy. Horizontal communication is often
referred to as 'lateral communication.'
c) Lateral Communication- is "the exchange, imparting or sharing of
information, ideas or feelings between people within a community, peer
groups, departments or units of an organization who are at or about
the same hierarchical level as each other for the purpose of
coordinating activities, efforts or fulfilling a common ...

Because it helps build trust and commitment among your staff, stakeholders, and external
