that represents the $171 billion/year electrical contracting industry.

TIA - The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) is an industry organization with


paying members from the communications/telecom industry. They develop minimal
performance standards for cabling and related hardware and installation standards for the
users/designers.

UL - Underwriters' Laboratories, or UL as it is universally known, tests and evaluates components and


products that allows a certification mark to be placed by the manufacturer.

UL LISTED The UL Listed seal means that the product has been tested by UL to nationally recognized
safety and sustainability standards.

UL Recognized - UL Recognized products carry the following mark The UL Recognized Component Mark
means that the product has been tested as a component. These components will later be used in
complete end-products or systems. Some additional installation precautions may be required.

ASTM - ASTM International, formerly known as American Society for Testing and Materials, is an
international standards organization that develops and publishes voluntary consensus technical
standards for a wide range of materials, products, systems, and services.

product safety testing, UL sets the industry standards for companies to follow during the process of
innovating new products. UL continually checks products to ensure they meet standards and are

IEEE Standards Association (IEEE SA) is a globally recognized standards-setting body within IEEE. It
develops consensus standards through an open process that engages industry and brings together a
broad stakeholder community.
