A closed market during bandh called over the

Udaipur incident, in Bikaner, on Friday.

Udaipur killing:
32 policemen
transferred
VINEETA PANDEY | DC
NEW DELHI, JULY 1

Facing criticism for failure to prevent the

murder of tailor Kanhaiya Lal Teli in
Udaipur and the growing discontent over law
and order situation in Rajasthan, Chief
Minister Ashok Gehlot has transferred 32 top
police officials in the state. These top cops
include IPS officers like Inspector General
and Police Superintendent of Udaipur.
Meanwhile, two more suspects have been
arrested in the gruesome murder of
Kanhaiya Lal.
“Two more people have been arrested in
connection with the matter. They were
involved in the conspiracy and preparation
behind the entire crime,” said Prafulla
Kumar, IG, Udaipur Range. The two arrested
accused Mohsin and Asif have been sent to
14-day judicial custody.
Some interesting details have come to the
fore during investigation of this case that
has rocked the nation. It has been found that
one of the main accused Riyaz Akhtari had
paid extra money of `5,000 to get a number
plate for his motorcycle that read 2611 (RJ 27
AS 2611). The number is seen as an obvious
link to the date of Mumbai terror attack in
2008.
Incidentally, this is the same bike which
was used by both the accused – Akhtari and
Ghouse Mohammad — to flee the crime scene
after alleged hacking Kanhaiya Lal.
The duo were caught at a police barricade
in Rajsamand district, roughly 45 km from
Udaipur. Equally interesting is the fact that
the vehicle’s insurance had expired in March
2014 and never renewed after that.
According to police officials seeking num-
ber 2611 could provide important clues into
this criminal bent of mind towards such a
killing. Linking the bike number to the mur-
der, police feel the number plate provides an
idea of what was going on in Riyaz’s mind
since 2014.
Riyaz’s passport shows he had visited Nepal
in 2014 while his mobile data details show his
phone was used to make calls to Pakistan,
said police.

SECURITY FOR THREATENED

UDAIPUR RESIDENT SOUGHT
Udaipur, July 1: Members of the Jain com-
munity on Friday demanded more security
for a resident of an Udaipur locality men-
tioned in the video clip posted by the alleged
killers of tailor Kanhaiya Lal.
They met the district collector and handed
over a memorandum pressing for enhanced
security for tyre trader Nitin Jain and his
family, who live in Sector 11.
Riaz Akhtari, the accused who allegedly
murdered tailor Kanhaiya Lal on Tuesday
for extending support to Sharma, had men-
tioned in a video that some people living in
Sector 11 should also be beheaded.
After the video surfaced online following
Lal’s murder, Jain said a police complaint
had also been filed against him by a Muslim
man as he too had shared a social media post
in support of Sharma. — PTI
