CERTIFICATE
Certified that seminar work entitled “BLUE BRAIN TECHNOLOGY” is a bonafide work
carried out in the fifth semester by “GREESHMA G NAIR” in partial fulfilment for the
award of Diploma in Engineering in “COMPUTER ENGINEERING” from Board of
Technical Education during the academic year 2020-2021, who carried out the seminar work
under my guidance.
First of all, I am indebted to the GOD ALMIGHTY for giving me an opportunity to excel in
my efforts to complete this seminar on time. I am extremely grateful to Mr. RAJU G
Principal,
MGM POLYTECHNIC COLLEGE KILIMANOOR and Mrs. SANDHYA K R, Head of
Department, Department of Computer Engineering, for providing all the required resources
for the successful completion of my seminar. My heartfelt gratitude to my seminar guide
Mrs. ABJILA A.G, Lecturer, Computer Engineering, for her valuable suggestions and
guidance in the preparation of the seminar report. I express my thanks to Mrs. SANDHYA K
R, Coordinator, and all staff members and friends for all the help and co-ordination extended
in bringing out this seminar successfully in time. I will be failing in duty if I do not
acknowledge with grateful thanks to the authors of the references and other literatures
referred to in this seminar. Last but not the least; I am very much thankful to my parents who
guided me in every step which I took.

ABSTRACT
This paper discusses advent of the screen less display which is an emerge new
technology ,has become a good prospect in the near future for a wide range of
applications. As the name implies it deals with the display of several things
without the use of screens using projector. It involves the following 3 different
working principles. The visual image, Visual retinal display, Synaptic
interface. This paper mainly illustrates and demonstrate how the screen less
displays works and its applications in various fields of science. This
technology would bring about the revolution in the field of displays and
monitors that are costly, huge and are proven difficult to manage the power
requirements and constraints. It is also the futuristic technological innovation.
INTRODUCTION
Blue Brain is an artificial brain which can think, take decisions, and respond
as a natural brain. The most important question that arises here is that “Is it
possible to create a human brain?” Yes, it is possible with the help of
5
technology because everything that is created by man today, he always
followed the nature. So, a super computer with high amount of storage
capacity, processing power and an interface between the human brain and
this virtual one can be used for creating it. This is not happening today or
tomorrow. But we are expecting this in near future. If we finally achieve this
then even after death of human body, we preserve his knowledge and
intelligence. It is the latest invention in the field of neural network. This
technology opens new door in the field of artificial intelligence. It provides
comprehensive simulation of the internal connectivity of cerebral part with
the external artificial intelligence network
BLUE BRAIN
The BLUE BRAIN is a reverse engineering project of recreation of the
human brain. The project is headed by the founding director Henry Markram,
who also heads the European Human Brain Project, and co-directed by Felix
Schürmann and Sean Hill. IBM is now in research to invent a virtual brain
that can function as a human brain, called BLUE BRAIN. If possible, then it
would be the first virtual brain of the world. Within coming years, we will be
able to scan ourselves into the computers. The goals of this project are:
6
i) To gain complete understanding of the brain ii) Better
The main aim of Blue Brain is to transfer human brain into machine. So that,
without any effort a man can think and take decisions.

• Sensory Input
• Integration/ Interpretation
• Motor Output
Sensory unit
Sensory input to the brain enters through pathways that travel through either
the spinal cord (for somatosensory input from the body) or the brain stem (for
8
everything else, except the visual and olfactory systems) to reach the
diencephalon. In the diencephalon, sensory pathways reach the thalamus.
Integration /Interpretation
Motor Output
Sensory input is converted into electrical signals called nerve impulses that
are transmitted to the brain. Muscles and glands are called effectors because
they cause an effect in response to directions from the nervous system. This is
the motor output or motor function.

Brain Simulation in natural and virtual brain

1. Data Acquisition
In this step, all the data from brain is collected and after being analyzed under
a microscope, we can understand the electrical behavior individually of the
neurons. For further simulation, observations are transformed into
algorithms.
2. Data Simulation
i) Speed of simulation
The speed of simulation is 200 times slower than the real one.

REQUIREMENTS
The “Blue Gene” supercomputer built by IBM is used for the development of
Blue Brain. This is where the name “Blue Brain” originates from. The series
includes Blue Gene/L, Cyclops64, (formerly Blue Gene/C), Blue Gene/P and
Blue Gene/Q. The hardware & software required to build a Blue Brain are:
12
2. 256MB to 512MB memory per processor.
3. 100 kilowatts power consumption.
4. Processor with a very high processing power.
5. 22.8 TFLOPS peak processing speed.
6. Linux and C++ software
CONS
13
Technical knowledge can be used against us.
There are more power constraints as the supercomputers may use as
much as 1MW or an order of 100,000 more.
Human Cloning is also possible.
FUTURE SCOPE
14
FUNCTIONS OF BLUE BRAIN
15
CONCLUSION
Hence, we can say that with some improvement in today's technology, the
Blue Brain can be implemented in future and transferring ourselves into
computer would be possible. The intelligence of human brain will be stored
even after the death for betterment of society. We can make decisions
without the actual presence of a person. But it is also true that we will depend
on the computer. It will bring both positive and negative effects to human
society. This technology will be accepted all over the world widely very
soon.
