ANTOP HILL SLUM, MUMBAI

Antop Hill is a neighbourhood in Mumbai to the east of the Harbour
railway line.
Many parts of Antop Hill are occupied by slums. Around this area is
the Sangam Nagar slum.

Historically, slums have grown in Bombay as a response to a growth of population far beyond
the capacity of existing housing. Migrants are normally drawn to the city by the huge disparity
between urban and rural income levels. Usually the residents of these densely populated
enclaves live close to their place of work. The residential area itself does not provide
employment.
Around this area is the Sangam Nagar slum. The Darul-Salam High School which is recognized
by the Government of Maharashtra State is located here. This organization also conducts the
Mahatma Phule Hami Yojna (Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan) classes for children from slums who are
unable to attend a school or are school drop-outs.
