- School administrators want all of their teachers to be excellent educators. A school
leader's job is made easier by great teachers. In reality, not every teacher is
exceptional. It takes time for greatness to emerge. Improving teacher quality is an
important part of a school leader's job. Any teacher can be helped to advance to the
next level by an effective school leader. A good school leader can help a bad teacher
become more effective, a good teacher become even better, and a great teacher become
even better. They recognize that this is a lengthy, patient, and labor-intensive process.
Students' learning outcomes will improve naturally as teacher quality improves. Better
input equals better output. This is a necessary component of academic success.
Continuous improvement and growth are required. A school leader can improve
teacher quality in their building in a variety of ways. We'll look at seven ways a school
leader can assist individual teachers in growing and improving.
2. How can these professional standards influence the development of the
pre-service teachers education curriculum?

- There are strong calls for reforming teacher education in the direction of teaching
professionalism on a global scale. Standards-based reform has been implemented in
K-12 teacher education programs in the United States, as a result of the paradigm
shift toward focusing on teacher performance. The goals of this paper are threefold: (1)
to document the rhetoric of the standards-based movement in teacher preparation
programs in the United States; (2) to examine how a teacher education program
develops and implements teaching standards reform by looking at a sample
university; and (3) to investigate how preservice teachers conceptualize teaching
standards throughout their training. The results of our focus group interview with six
preservice teachers were organized around four emergent themes: preconceptions of
standards, learning to teach through observation, and preconceptions of standards.

3. As education students, how can you prepare yourself for this

professional standards for teachers?

- You can start preparing for a successful experience right now. To begin, you should
rest and reorganize your family's responsibilities to mentally prepare for the
experience. However, you should make preparing for your professional experience a
top priority as well. Daily classroom success is dependent on your organization and
planning, as well as your understanding of the professional expectations that will
foster your readiness and successful teaching outcomes. Here are a few ways to enter
your student teaching classroom as a professional, ready to focus on the curriculum,
school culture, and establishing relationships within the school setting. Teaching is a
rigorous but fulfilling career, and student teaching prepares you to learn and adapt to
the demands and responsibilities that come with the job. If you take the time now to
fulfill these preparations, you’ll already be on your way to starting your successful
new career.

Critical Question: Have a small group discussion and answer the question
below.

1. Philosophy of teaching

-willingness to reflect and change in response to student and peer feedback, as well as
their future ideas and goals for teaching and learning effectiveness, are all influenced
by their teaching philosophy. Teaching philosophies are statements about your
teaching values and beliefs. They're personal statements that give your reader an
introduction to you as a teacher. As a result, they're written in the first person and
have a confident, business-like tone to them. A teaching philosophy is a statement
that explains your teaching philosophy and how you will apply that philosophy in
your classroom. Teaching philosophies are useful as a benchmark against which
teachers can compare their methods. As you learn and grow, you can use your
philosophy to guide your instructional decisions and change your educational
approach. Additionally, you may want to revisit and update your teaching philosophy
on a regular basis.

2. Dignity of teaching as a profession

- Dignity means respect for humanity. Teachers must respect every person, regardless
of gender, sexual orientation, gender diversity, appearance, age, religion, social
standing, origin, opinions, abilities and achievements. Teachers' professional dignity
affirms who they are and what they aspire to be. Teachers want to be recognized as
educated professionals and, more importantly, as individuals by the school
community. The professional dignity of teachers implies that the school community
"knows" them both professionally and personally. Teaching staff must create an
environment in which people treat each other with dignity, courtesy, and respect while
also encouraging open and critical exchange of ideas in order to make student
interaction effective and safe for participants.

3. Professional links with colleagues

-As new teachers try to earn their colleagues' respect, they worry about stepping on
the toes of veteran teachers. They need guidance on how to build strong, lasting
relationships. It will be easier to enjoy your job if you have good working relationships.
Close-knit teams are also more productive, allowing you to innovate and focus on your
personal development. You'll be able to advance your career by making professional
connections.
4. Professional reflection and learning to improve practice

- Reflective practice is defined as "learning from and through experience in order to

gain new insights into oneself and one's practice. Reflection is a systematic review
process for all teachers that allows you to make connections between experiences,
ensuring that your students make the most progress possible. Reflecting on teachers'
personal and professional growth through a materials development seminar increases
teachers' awareness of personal and professional growth by improving discipline
knowledge, pedagogical practices, and research projects, as well as encouraging self-
confidence, creativity, and self-esteem.

5. Professional development goals

- Professional development goals are practical roadmaps for advancing your career
and achieving success. These objectives are designed to assist you in improving your
professional skills, competence, and knowledge. Professional development goals open
the lines of communication and give employees a platform to explain their vision for
the future. They might be interested in developing additional skills, learning how their
work affects other departments, or adopting new technology that could help their
performance.

Critical Question: Answer the following questions.

1. How do teachers establish learning environments that are responsive to

community contexts?

-Students should fill out interest inventories or surveys. Students should take
learning style and personality tests. Hold class meetings on a regular basis. Play
games to help students develop their teamwork skills. Discuss classroom decision-
making with students in an open and honest manner. provide opportunities for
children to participate in self-directed learning experiences. provide a program that
strikes a balance between structure and spontaneity encourage children to participate
in the construction of the learning environment.Responsive learning environments
adapt to each student's unique needs and encourage learning by encouraging
collaboration rather than isolation among students. Classrooms, schools, and other
learning environments should be designed to promote active teaching and learning.

2. How are the parents and the wider school community involved in the
educative process?

- Parents and the wider school community are involved in the educational process in
such a way that, at home, parents act as teachers to their children, ensuring that, in
addition to the concepts taught in school, they gain additional knowledge about
everything through frequent communication between parents and children. As a
parent, having time set aside to teach your child will be extremely beneficial to the
development of the child's understanding of the world. Students tend to copy and
practice what they see from others, so the school community should set a good
example for students at all times by radiating proper manners and right conduct.

3. How do teachers observe professional ethics in dealing with parents?

Teachers follow professional ethics when dealing with parents, remaining composed
and calm in situations where the parents are complaining about something, and
managing their patience to the best of their ability, as this demonstrates how
professional you are as a teacher in front of the parent. Furthermore, as a teacher,
you must always have the necessary documents on hand whenever a situation arises.
Teachers must treat parents with respect and maintain their honesty at all times,
especially when there is a misunderstanding about something.
4. What are the school policies and procedures that promote a healthy
relationship between school and the community?

-
 Analyze the community -The school principal must examine the community in
which the school lies to create good relationships with its members.

 Adopt pertinent policy measures to encourage community’s participation in the
school

 Design and implement awareness-raising campaigns

 Create inclusive groups by recurring to national legislations, policies, and
procedures to involve community members in school.

 Conduct continuous M&E of school and community’s partnership

5. How does the Brigada Eskuwela help in promoting good school and
community partnership?

-Brigada Eskuwela aids in the promotion of good school-community partnerships in

the sense that during Brigada Eskuwela, some volunteers from the community, such
as parents of students, assist in cleaning the school, making changes and
improvements in the school, and ensuring that the school where their children attend
is a safe and secure learning environment, as everything was perfectly prepared for
the start of the new academic year. Some community leaders donate supplies for
Brigada Eskuwela, demonstrating the positive relationship between the school's staff
and the surrounding community.

6. What are the other activities in the school where parents and
community members can support?

-
 Conduction of seminars with regards to leadership

 Training workshops for safety measures like earthquake drill and fire protection

Continue to interview some teachers. Ask the teachers the following

questions. Write the responses in the space provided below.

1. What are the types of of assessment tools used in your class?

- The teacher I spoke with used a variety of assessment tools in her class, including
allowing students to complete a few activities in their textbooks, as well as quizzes,
recitations, and examinations.

2. How do you use the result of ghe students’ assessment?

- I used the results of the students' assessments to determine which lessons or parts
of lessons they didn't understand, so that as a teacher, I can assess whether or not
the teaching method I used was effective, and if it wasn't, I can formulate and change
my teaching method to ensure that they fully comprehended a particular lesson.

3. How can you use the result of the assessments to motivate students?

- I use the assessment result to motivate students in such a way that if the result is
poor, I will not put them under any pressure to think about it, as this may lead to
disappointment in themselves. Instead, I will tell them that there are times in life
when we receive poor grades and that things happen that we did not expect. However,
rather than repeating the same mistake, students should work twice or three times
harder from what they've done in the past that has resulted in a low score in order to
ensure that the next time they take the exam or assessments, they will receive a high
mark. On the other hand, if they did well on the first test or if they received a high
score on the second test, I'll tell them that they're off to a good start and that they
need to keep going until they finish.

4. How do you ensure the reliability and validity of the assessment tools
used in your classes?

- I'll make sure that the assessments I give them are the ones I've already discussed
with them, and that the contents can be found in the learning or reference materials,
so they have no reason to complain about receiving a low grade on assessments.
questions you've never heard before or terms you've never heard before I'll also create
scoring rubrics and be open about the grading system for each activity that is
assigned to the students so that they are fully informed.

- Teachers respond to the needs of students with disabilities by taking extra care of
them so that they feel valued as teachers despite their disabilities and that they are
not different from others when it comes to their right to education. Teachers must
assign activities that they can complete, as well as guide them through the process.
Teachers must also be the type to provide daily encouraging and motivating quotes so
that students feel more motivated when they are feeling down and unworthy. I believe
that doing so will greatly assist them in continuing to pursue their dreams and
breaking stereotypes, as their condition is not a barrier to their success in life.

Find a partner and answer the following questions.

1. Many teachers are teaching subjects and courses that are not their
area of expertise. What are the effects of this practice in the Philippine
education?

- For me there are positive and negative effects of teachers teaching subjects that are
not their areas of expertise when it comes to Philippine education. For the positive
effects, it will help teachers to have an additional knowledge about a certain subject
they are not that expert of since before they teach that kind of subject, they will study
and master the lesson first. Another is that this will make a teacher flexible and ready
to possible changes for there are circumstances that it is hard to find a slot in
teaching that is related to your expertise but because of eagerness to work you take
the risk of trying to apply and teach other subjects concerning what the
administration needs that test your capacity as a teacher which will, later on, benefit
you in a way that you proved to others that you can adopt on these certain changes
and be an effective teacher even if that's not what you majored in. On the other hand,
the negative effect of this is that first, there are times that the teacher will not be able
to deliver well the lecture since he/she is not that very familiar with the subject. There
will also be times that a teacher can teach wrong ideas and contents to the students
since the teacher doesn't have that deeper understanding of the area. This may also
leave a bad impression about the teachers in that certain institution as well as they
might question the quality of education here in our country.

2. In Senior high school, some teachers do not have units in education.

Do you think that this will affect their teaching competence? Explain your
answer.

- Teachers who do not have units in education affect their teaching competencies
because this would mean that they have gaps in their teaching knowledge. Teaching
is a skill. Knowing a teacher teaching in a learning institution without units makes
others question your capability as a teacher. They may find you incompetent when it
comes to teaching as well as not trustworthy to provide knowledge to students and to
be looked up to as a good model to others. Because the real meaning of teaching is
having the skills and credibility established from a combination of formal education
and real-life learning experiences.

3. How can teachers improve their content knowledge?

- Teachers can improve their content knowledge through frequent reading different
learning materials and sources to acquire additional knowledge about a certain
content as well as challenge oneself to answer related questions and tests about it to
be able to understand thoroughly all the ideas and terms related to the content a
teacher is studying.
4. How can teachers improve their pedagogical knowledge?

- Teachers can improve their pedagogical knowledge by being open to

changes, improvements, and developments. That they must try new ways
to explore how the students are thinking about the concepts being taught.
They must establish an interactive learning environment wherein as a
teacher, you will ask students what they understand about the lecture
and let them relate it to personal life to be able to share a real-life
example or application of the certain topic.

5. What are the teaching strategies that will develop critical and cretive
thinking among students?

-
 Begin lessons with a probing question
 Encourage creativity
 Build-in opportunities for students to find connections in learning
 Use analogies and real-life problems
 Ask open-ended questions

6. What do you think are the important content knowledge and

pedagogical skills that a teacher should possess to effectively teach
Mother Tounge-Based Multilingual Education?

-
 Formulating the concrete objectives for a lesson of Mother-tongue
Language and Literature
 Using classroom and extra-classroom learning experiences and
activities to practice using the first language and culture in real-world
situations
 Integrating the specific knowledge, capacities, abilities, attitudes,
values, and behavior for first language acquisition 
 Combining class teaching, pair practice and individual learning in
mother-tongue teaching
 Creating opportunities to use the first language beyond the school
setting

Critical Questions: Reflect and write your answers to the following

questions.

1. Identify a teacher leader that you know. How does a teacher leader
influence the society?

-Teachers are arguably the most important members of our society. They
give children purpose, set them up for success as citizens of our world,
and inspire in them a drive to do well and succeed in life. Teachers from
all walks of life and topics have the power to mold opinions and assist in
the formation of ideas about culture, life, and personal ambitions.
Teachers have the ability to push students' imagination and broaden their
horizons. Teaching is a difficult profession, but one in which you will have
the greatest effect on the lives of others.  Educators will influence almost
any part of their students' lives by building good connections with them
and teaching them vital life skills that can help them excel beyond term
papers and standardized exams. A life-changing teacher can have
everything the student requires to help them succeed.

2. How can we encourage teachers to exercise leadership in their school?

-Work with colleagues to design the schedule so that students have longer
periods of time in each subject. Serve as the building liaison to student
teachers. Supportive social norms and working relationships are key to
teacher leadership. This requires a commitment to all students and
respect for different areas of expertise. Creating meaningful relationships
through listening to your peers is integral to being a teacher leader. Listen
purposefully when you talk with other teachers. Be aware of eye contact
and body language, and ask relevant questions to show your colleagues
you are listening to understand, not just listening to respond.

Critical Questions: Reflect and write your answers to the following

questions.

1. What are the essential features of the assessment framework of the

Department of Education in the Philippines?

- The framework typically contains various components as student

assessment, teacher appraisal, school evaluation, school leader appraisal
and education system evaluation, and includes the articulation between
the components and their coherent alignment to student learning
objectives.
K to 12 Program Guide Kindergarten Students will learn numbers,
alphabet, colors, and shapes. Learning will take place through dances,
games, and songs and the medium of instruction is in the child’s mother
tongue.
Grades 1 to 10 Students in Grades 1 to 10 will experience an enhanced,
context-based, and spiral progression-learning curriculum with the
following subjects:
Mother Tongue Filipino English Mathematics Science Araling Panlipunan
Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (EsP) Music Arts Physical Education Health
Edukasyong Pantahanan at Pangkabuhayan (EPP) Technology and

2. What should be included in an individual learning portfolios?

- Portfolios can be a physical collection of student work that includes

materials such as written assignments, journal entries, completed tests,
artwork, lab reports, physical projects (such as dioramas or models), and
other material evidence of learning progress and academic
accomplishment, including awards, honors, certifications,
recommendations, written evaluations by teachers or peers, and self
reflections written by students. Portfolios may also be digital archives,
presentations, blogs, or websites that feature the same materials as
physical portfolios, but that may also include content such as student
created videos, multimedia presentations, spreadsheets, websites,
photographs, or other digital artifacts of learning.
3. Some people believe that grades don’t necessarily reflect the capacity
and ability of a student. What is your idea on this?

- I agree on this because grades was just a number, some people also
become successful even though they have low grades when they are
studying it’s just a measurement of intelligence but but not the capacity
and ability of whole person. Grades don't necessarily reflect your
abilities. You might know the lessons covered in class, but still be unable
to translate that into performance once it's up for a grade. Your mental
and emotional state are powerful factors.

Critical Questions: Reflect and write your answers to the following

questions.

1. What curriculum models can be developed and implemented in a

multicultural country like the Philippines?

- Identifying the curriculum and instructional design models that best fits
our country is complicated.  Careful analysis and judgement must be
done first and before anyone can analyze he must be knowledgeable of the
current principles, policies and practices that guide curricularists and
instructionists in our country. Another equally important aspect to think
about is the knowledge and understanding of the different approaches,
designs and models. Its similarities, and differences matters also.
The K to 12 Program covers kindergarten and 12 years of basic education
(six years of primary education, four years of junior high school, and two
years of senior high school [SHS]) to provide sufficient time for mastery of
concepts and skills, develop lifelong learners, and prepare graduates for
tertiary education, middle-level skills development, employment, and
entrepreneurship.

2. What strategies and programs can you suggest for the successful
implementation of the curriculum?

- Careful analysis and judgement must be done first and before anyone
can analyze he must be knowledgeable of the current principles, policies
and practices that guide curricularists and instructionists in our country.
Another equally important aspect to think about is the knowledge and
understanding of the different approaches, designs and models. Its
similarities, and differences matters also. There are various factors that
influence Curriculum Implementation like the learners, resource
materials and facilities, the teacher, the school environment, culture and
ideology, instructional supervision and assessment.
3. What pedagogical approach can be used to maximize students’
learning?

-Pedagogy refers to the method and practices of a teacher. It's how they
approach their teaching style, and relates to the different theories they
use, how they give feedback, and the assessments they set. When people
refer to the pedagogy of teaching, it means how the teacher delivers the
curriculum to the class.Given that I have read that there are three basic
ways of learning;

 Attending lectures
 Reading the course material
 Doing hands-on lab exercises

Given these three ways studies have shown that everybody needs to do all
three ways, but in different orders. Some people like reading first, then
attending the lecture, then doing the lab work. Other people like just
getting their hands into it in the lab and then attending the lecture to
understand what they just did, followed by the reading to cement what
they have learned.

4. What are your thoughts about the practice in the Philippines of

adapting curriculum models and programs for other countries, especially
the United States?

- The K to 12 program promotes global competency by accelerating

mutual recognition of Filipino graduates and professionals in other
countries. The new curriculum allows students to choose between three
tracks which are the Academic, Technical-Vocational-Livelihood, and the
Sports and Arts strand. K to 12 program is a wide door open of
opportunities for the students. It helps the learner determines what kind
of profession they wanted to be in the future. It also offer many options
that is based on their intellectual intellegences unlikely to the traditional
type of curriculum. K to 12 curriculum/ program is an example of
progressive curriculum where every learner has given a chance to
developed their knowledge and skills fairly.

citizens?

-Of course teachers are enjoying their right as a citizen but there's no
assurance that everyone of them experiences the same. Because some are
