Port Numbers: The end point of a logical connection is known as port.

It is a
16 bit size number ranging from 0 to 65536. The port numbers from 0 to 1024
are known as well known ports and are used for specialized services or
privileged services. For example as mentioned in the table below port 80 is
used for HTTP while ftp port number is 21 etc.
Table of Port numbers used for FTP,
TELNET, HTTP, SMTP, POP3, IMAP, BIOS,
SSH, DHCP protocols
Port numbers are pre-assigned by IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers
Authority). They are specified in RFC 1700. Following table mentions port
numbers for FTP, TELNET, HTTP, SMTP, POP3, IMAP, BIOS, SSH, DHCP
protocols. These protocols are used in TCP or UDP connections in computer
networks.

FTP port
Featured snippet from the web
The FTP protocol typically uses port 21 as its main means of communication. An FTP server
will listen for client connections on port 21. FTP clients will then connect to the FTP server
on port 21 and initiate a conversation. This main connection is called the Control Connection
or Command Connection.

Telnet port
Featured snippet from the web
This application is based on the connection-oriented Transmission Control Protocol (TCP).
By default, a telnet server listens on port 23 for incoming connections from clients.

HTTP
Port 80 is the port number assigned to commonly used internet communication protocol,
Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP). It is the default network port used to send and receive
unencrypted web pages.

SMTP
What is an SMTP port? SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) is the basic standard that
mail servers use to send email to one another across the internet. SMTP is also used
by applications such as Apple Mail or Outlook to upload emails to mail servers that then
relay them to other mail servers.

POP3 is an older protocol that was originally designed to be used on only one
computer. Unlike modern protocols that use two-way synchronization, POP3 only supports
one-way email synchronization, only allowing users to download emails from a server to a
client.

What are IMAP ports?

IMAP is an mail protocol used to access a mailbox on a remote server from a local
email client. IMAP can be more complex, but provide more convenience for syncing
across multiple devices. Ports used for IMAP: Port 143 – Default IMAP port.

Some motherboard vendors include a USB port called “BIOS” for a USB memory stick that
you can reload or update the UEFI BIOS of the motherboard, without having to boot it
into an operating system. There may also be a button associated with it to initiate flashing
of the BIOS.
Is SSH always on port 22?
By default, the SSH server still runs in port 22. However, there are occasions
when it is run in a different port.

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is a client/server protocol that

automatically provides an Internet Protocol (IP) host with its IP address and other
related configuration information such as the subnet mask and default gateway.29-Jul-

DNS has always been designed to use both UDP and TCP port 53 from the start 1 , with
UDP being the default, and fall back to using TCP when it is unable to communicate on
UDP, typically when the packet size is too large to push through in a single UDP packet.

TFTP is a simple protocol for transferring files, implemented on top of the UDP/IP protocols using
well-known port number 69. TFTP was designed to be small and easy to implement, and
therefore it lacks most of the advanced features offered by more robust file transfer protocols.

Gopher is an application-layer protocol that provides the ability to extract and view Web
documents stored on remote Web servers. Gopher was conceived in 1991 as one of the
Internet's first data/file access protocols to run on top of a TCP/IP network.

SNMP port
Featured snippet from the web
What Port is Used for SNMP? 161 or 162? SNMP uses both port 161 and port 162 for
sending commands and messages.

What does Border Gateway Protocol BGP do?

Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) refers to a gateway protocol that enables the
internet to exchange routing information between autonomous systems (AS).
As networks interact with each other, they need a way to communicate. This is
accomplished through peering.

LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) is a software protocol for enabling anyone
to locate data about organizations, individuals and other resources such as files and
devices in a network -- whether on the public Internet or on a corporate Intranet.
Virtual network computing (VNC) is a type of remote-control software that makes it possible to
control another computer over a network connection.
