Later, the class discovers that another ghost was actually responsible for the harmful events.
It all started in the Class 4, 12 Grade of Boseok Boys’
High School. At a rainy night, the homeroom teacher of Class 4 was busy in the of ce, checking the report cards of the students for the mock exam. He found out that one report card was missing. “There’s supposed to be 21 cards”, he mumbled to himself and searched for it in a hurry. At that moment, the lights went out and he heard the window glasses shattered. He stepped out to see what happened. Meanwhile, a group of 12 students from class 4 were playing Bunshinsaba game to summon the ghost in the class. “Right now, are you..here with us?”, said Yedam. Another student, Hyunsuk, said,“If you are, please answer us”. After a moment of silence, the pen on the paper moved to ‘Yes’ by itself and suddenly the doors slammed. “The ghost is here!”, they all rushed out of the class, screaming and getting scared to death. When rushing down the stairs, they suddenly stopped in a daze as they saw their homeroom teacher fainting and lying on the oor who seemed to have fallen down the stairs. On the next morning, all the students were muttering about what happened to the teacher and about the Bunshinsaba game. When the students from other classes came in their class, they said, “Why is this class so freezing!?”, “There really must be the ghost in here” . Doyoung, the class president of class 4 entered the room and told them to go back to their classes and said, “Our teacher told me he had to stay in the hospital for three weeks. So we have to study on our own.”
After that, some weird things kept happening…
Everytime they had their lunch, one serving is always
left, which means, one student never ate anything. When the students from other class came and called them, including Hyunsuk, Yedam, Mashiho, Doyoung, Jaehyuk, Junkyu, Asahi, Haruto, Jihoon, Junghwan, Yoshi and Jeongwoo , to play soccer, Jaehyuk, the top student, said, “I have to study. You guys don’t need me anyways. You have already 11.” So, 11 of them played soccer… After the game, the students from other class said, “That’s embarrassing how we lost you even though you guys had only 10 players”…. Though it was listed that class 4 had 20 students in the school’s of ce, the roll book listed by their homeroom teacher said there were 21 of them.
Gradually, they came to realize that someone whom others
cannot see except them and their homeroom teacher was in their class. Since then, they tried out various ways to nd the ghost albeit in failure. There were even times when they suspected each other! Once they had a ght against each other as things were going wrong, Haruto was the one who always tried to bring them together. He was on friendly terms with everyone in the class and he took extra care of his friends as well. Day by day, it was getting worse. The ghost was disturbing them not only in the class but also in their dormitory. “What if it harms us?”, said Jeongwoo, the scaredy-cat among all of them. Haruto, right away, replied, “No, it will never harm you guys.” Jaehyuk was getting bad grades in the weekly tests. He was deprived of sleep and couldn’t focus on his studies. The reason is that something was keeping him awake. It seemed like an evil was taking energy away from him. His roommate, Haruto, seemed to know all about his problems. “Aren’t you sleeping?” Haruto asked to Jaehyuk. “Yes, midterms are coming up. I don’t get why everyone is fussing over the ghost when they should be studying” ,he replied and held his coffee cup. “Oh, it already ran out?” Jaehyuk said. Haruto lled his cup with some tea he had made and said, “Don’t drink too much coffee that’s bad for you health. This is the tea that will clear your head and make you sleep well.” “Thanks.” Every night they had chit chats. One day, Haruto went to his upper bed of the bunk bed to sleep. Once he lied down, he felt like his back was burned because of something from the lower bed of Jaehyuk. He couldn’t sleep anymore. “Where’re you going? asked Jaehyuk. “To the toilet, you go to bed rst.” It was Jaehyuk who placed a charm, which the spirits are afraid of, on the bunk bed… From that night on, Haruto didn’t sleep on his bed and just stayed at his study table the whole night. But he didn’t even fail once to give Jaehyuk his tea… Jaehyuk was no more disturbed by the evil thing starting from the day he drank the tea Haruto gave to him… One day in the class, Yoshi, who is good at reading tarot cards, was foreseeing his friends’ future using cards. He predicted that Jeongwoo is going to have an ill fate soon. While everyone was startled, Haruto also joined them, “Can I try it too? “Of course! What do you want to know?” “My future?” “Well, pick any three cards.” After he picked, a teacher came in and told them to sit back in their seats. The result made Yoshi dumbstruck. He whispered to himself, “These are not the signs of a human”…. One night, when everyone was sleeping in their dorms, Jeongwoo walked along the corridor as someone was leading him to somewhere. But he wasn’t conscious at all. No sooner did he come to his senses than someone pushed him over with a strong force. He fell and hit his head on the oor. “Jeongwoo! Are you okay?” Haruto appeared out of nowhere and asked him concernedly. As soon as he saw Haruto, he fainted. Everyone in the dorm came out of their rooms and took Jeongwoo to hospital. It nally turned out that Haruto is the ghost but without any bad intentions. He neither tried to harm his friends nor did anything bad to them. But… all the terrible things were done by an evil spirit. Haruto was furious and shouted, “Stop messing up with my friends and making them hurt! The evil came out with terrifying voice, “Hahahahehehe.. poor soul, you’re not even their friend. Stop acting like a human. You will regret staying closer with them later. Hahahaah!” There was nothing Haruto could do to get rid of that evil. That’s why he protected his friends from it at all costs. The next day, the homeroom teacher was discharged from the hospital and asked the students to tell him what had happened in his absence. They all gave the same answers that there was a ghost in the class. In the of ce, the homeroom teacher said to the other teachers, “Students in my class won’t tell me who hurt Jeongwoo. They kept saying it’s because of the ghost.” Kids these days seem to like making up ghost stories”, said the assistant teacher, “By the way, the day before you were hospitalized, you told me there was one report card missing, whose was it?” “Oh, it was Haruto’s. I still can’t nd it.” “Haruto? The name sounds familiar but there’s no one named Haruto in your class. You might have mistaken with the other classes.” “What?”, he was confused. The assistant teacher thought for a moment and said, “Right! I now remember, he was also named Haruto! Don’t you know? That boy was in the same class with us in high school. (sigh) He was very sick that he could come to the class only for a week throughout the school year. He died from the serious illness after his birthday. What a pity.” The homeroom teacher was reminded about the past and he was speechless. He angrily went straight into the class and yelled at Haruto who was having fun with his friends. All the students were surprised by his loud voice. “How are you still here when you died 10 years ago?!” The students were all gobsmacked. “Sir, let me explain..” “I don’t care why you are here. Get out of my sight, you ghost!!”Everyone was so furious at Haruto. “From now on, there’s no Haruto”, said the teacher. “Take his desks outside.”He said and left. His friends still couldn’t believe, “What? Why didn’t you tell us earlier!?” “Why did it have to be our class?!!”, they all yelled at him. Haruto cried and said, “I’m sorry… Actually, I was a student in this class 10 years ago. But since when I was young, I was weak and fragile. My health condition was getting worse day by day. I was in the hospital more than I was at school. I wanted to have a normal school life. Even after death, I couldn’t leave my class. But I met with you guys and you all could see me. I would never ever hurt you guys. So, can’t we.. stay friends just like before?” “You’re so disgusting”, said Junghwan, “Don’t be so pathetic, does it make Jeongwoo wake up?” “It wasn’t me..there’s….” “You expect us to believe it after you have fooled the whole class?”, Doyoung shouted, “Stay away from us from now on and get out of here!” From that day on, they all avoided Haruto and acted like they couldn’t see him. Since his friends didn’t need him anymore, His body became transparent and started to fade away. He couldn’t be seen anymore but was still wandering the school. “Don’t you guys think we’re being cruel to him? We were friends once and he was nice to us,” said Jaehyuk to the others. Yoshi said, “I also don’t think he’s the bad ghost.” “Are you taking sides with the ghost? All this time, he acted like he’s nice and played pranks on us. How can we forgive him?!” said Yedam. Later, they all heard from Jeongwoo that it was not Haruto who hurt him. Though they couldn’t see Haruto in the class anymore, some mysterious things kept on happening. So, they began to realize that there was another ghost in their class. One evening after they nished class, the homeroom teacher brought a shaman to expel the ghost. They all sneakily watched the whole process of it outside of the class. The shaman said there was something in the locker which had always been closed. She opened it and found two ash pots in there. “No way! Why are they in there?!”, the teacher exclaimed. I have to break these to get rid of the poltergeist”, she said and broke one of the pots, “ You have been hiding well, you have been the curse. Now, go to hell demon!! As soon as she broke it, the windows shattered. “An evil is now gone. But this one here is a poor soul”,she said ululating, “It was grieving. But you can’t stay here like that. Go away!” Once she was about to break the second pot, students came in and Junkyu took the pot from the shaman’s hands saying, “No! Haruto is not a demon!. He is our friend. He can’t just go like this!” “You guys are crazy. It will do nothing but torment you!”, said the teacher. “You’re wrong. He takes care of us”, said Jaehyuk, “Now, it’s our turn to protect him.” Doyoung also said, “Sir, we want to be with Haruto, please, only until graduation”. That was how Haruto came back to their lives. They all adapted to living with a ghost. Sometimes, they got bene ts from that coexistence. They graduated together. Finally, Haruto resolved all his grieving and went to heaven, having given them a memorable time in high school…..
The 12 friends are now adults and they all are occupied with their respective jobs. One day, they all made an appointment reunited after 7 years of not seeing each other. They visited Haruto’s grave together. Then came to a café to have talks. In a café, they noticed a little boy was sweetly smiling at them. His smile somehow reminded them of Haruto. Not so long after, he ran straight to them saying, “Hey guys! How are you all doing? I have been missing you a lot.”
