JOB TITLE: Chief Financial Officer
LOCATION: Sandton
REMUNERATION: Market Related Package
KEY PERFORMANCE The main purpose of the job is to provide superior
AREAS: financial support, advice and guidance to all peer
executives in the financial operating of the Group, its
subsidiaries and joint-venture operations and to assist
in performing all financially related tasks necessary to
achieve the organisation's objectives.

This requires leading the finance unit and directly assisting


the CEO on all strategic and tactical matters as they relate
to budget management, cost benefit analysis (pre- and
post-project implementation), treasury, inter-country
money movements (foreign exchange management),
setting-up tax efficient structures (local and offshore),
cash-flow management, managing diverse business
cultures found in offshore operations/customer bases,
forecasting, the securing of new funding, acquisition and
merger matters and general support relative to a listed
Group.

Reporting will primarily be to the Group Board,


Shareholders and to a Joint Venture Partner in Italy (listed
company). Reporting in to this position is the Chief
Accounting Officer with a subordinate staff of three.

External interaction will include customers, suppliers,


auditors, banks (local and foreign), transaction advisors,
statutory bodies, attorneys and the like.

Key Performance indicators include:


 Financial and treasury management:
- Upgrading and maintenance of local and cross
border financial systems
- Managing internal controls
- Overseeing financial reporting according to pre-
set intervals
- Managing the budget process
 Commercial management:
- Preparation of pricing models
- Interaction with clients on financial matters
(client relationship responsibility)
- Driving of cost savings – ensuring optimal
financial efficacy
- Establishing business unit operational and
financial KPI’s

 Business development:
- Supporting the CEO and peer colleagues in
strategic business areas such as new acquisitions
and off-shore ventures, cross-border projects
etc.
- Providing the Group Board with financial
information which will enable well-considered
decisions to be made
- Conducting and co-ordinate due diligence
exercises as required
 General Management:
- Accessing physical and manpower resources that
facilitate optimal performance of the group
- Encouraging, developing and empowering
adequately skilled personnel to take on greater
responsibilities (grow)
Ad Hoc responsibilities: As directed by the CEO from
time-to-time

SKILLS REQUIREMENT:  Problem solving, decision making, interpersonal skills,


business acumen, planning, response to pressure,
innovativeness and leadership talent will be selection
determinants.

EDUCATION /  Chartered Accountant registered with SAICA. Ideally,


EXPERIENCE: articles will have been served in a smaller firm where
sound ‘hands-on’, smaller company finances have been
both managed and audited.

 3 – 4 years’ post articles experience, which must include


foreign exchange, cross border systems and
consolidations, thorough understanding of Stock
Exchange rules, regulations and payroll. Any rail-related
experience would prove an advantage, but is not
essential. At least one year should have been in a senior
management capacity.
