TYPES OF MIGRANTS

URBAN TO URBAN
This type of migration can be defined as people
moving from one urban area to another. This
explains the situation like persons changing their
place for the reason of job transfer or posting.

For example -
Aurangabad to Mumbai

 Aurangabad is a second tier city.

 While it has all the facilities a city needs, people form
the city finds better job opportunities, education and
many other things in other bigger cities like Pune,
Mumbai, Bangalore, etc.
 Considering my personal experience, I moved to
Mumbai to study even when I was getting into a good
college in Aurangabad because there are better career
opportunities in Mumbai.
URBAN TO RURAL
This kind of migration happens when people get
disgusted with their workplace and busy schedule of urban
life and they want to move to rural area in search of peace.

For example –
Nasik to Rajgadnagar

 Nasik city is a developed city and has everything a city

needs.
 But because of the growing population, rich tourism,
migrants from other places for better education and job
opportunities, it is difficult for local farmers to hold onto
their farming lands.
 That is why; many farmers are migrating from the city to
nearby villages for better agricultural opportunities.
RURAL TO URBAN
It explains migration of people from agrarian
economy to non-agrarian economy. Urban areas
are found to have plenty of opportunities for jobs,
modern facilities, and luxurious life. So, people in
rural areas prefer to shift to urban areas.
Primarily, rural-urban migration is common in
developing countries and it throws a lot of
challenges and opportunities in both sectors.

For example -
Ranjangaon to Pune

 Ranjangaon is a small village located near Pune city.

 It is one of the Ashtavinayaka (Eight Ganesha) temples.
 Though, the village has a large number of tourism, it is
still undeveloped and lacks of primary facilities.
 People from this village usually migrate to Pune as Pune
is the most livable city.
RURAL TO RURAL
People moving from one rural area to another
are called rural-rural migration. This type of
migration usually occurs in developing countries
where people move from a less or scarce
resource rural area to highly developed
agriculture driven rural area.

For example -
Bhilwara to Kankavli

 Bhilwara is a small village in Rajasthan.

 It is a historical place but does not have any of the
primary facilities like proper water supply, hospitals,
schools and colleges.
 The main reason for people to leave the village to other
village is better quality of living.
 For example, a village in Kokan region named Kankavli
has every facility they need. It has a good water supply,
primary and secondary education, health services and
that is why, the number of migrants to settle into the
village is much bigger than the number of the people
leaving the place.
