Lesson

5 Marketing Products

Marketing products is an essential part of setting-up a successful business.

Marketing attracts prospects, prospects become buyers, and buyers provide profits.
Often new business owners find that their marketing strategies are not giving them
the result they want. Their efforts are not bringing them the customers, clients, or
sales they desire.
That’s where a marketing strategy comes in.

An important part of this lesson is a brief discussion on marketing a product using

technology tools.

What is It

Packaging and Labelling

3
Packaging and labelling are important because they add to the “marketability” of
the product. They are usually considered a part of the overall “marketing strategy”
to further promote a product. They may also be used in communicating the
product’s qualities to the consumers or clientele.

Functions of Packaging (by Lamb, Hair, and McDaniel, 2008)

1. Contain and protect the product
2. Promote the product
3. Facilitate the storage, use, and convenience of the product
4. Facilitate recycling and reduce environmental damage

Purpose of Labelling
1. Provide the necessary information about the product such as its
contents, features, instructions as to its usage, manufacturing
information, special care and safety information, and the like
2. Promote the product with the use of branding, and attractive, colourful
marks

Marketability – refers to a product’s saleability and fitness to be offered for

sale in the market
Use of Technology to Market a Product
Consumers nowadays spend most of their time surfing the Internet. Entrepreneurs
specifically use various social networking sites such as Facebook and Instagram
and other websites (e.g. OLX Philippines, Ayos Dito, Sulit) or applications (e.g.
Viber, Facebook Messenger) to reach their consumers. With the help of these
websites and applications, entrepreneurs are able to post pictures of their products
for free by making a personal account. Transactions between the buyer and the
seller may be done using chat, call, or text.

With today’s technology, marketing of products is easily done by both the sellers
and buyers who also make the products. More and more entrepreneurs use
technology to market their product since it is more economical than having an
actual store. Though it requires a gadget such as a computer or a smart phone and
internet connection, marketing is more convenient and hassle-free with the use of
technology.

Computing for Earnings
