AP CALCULUS BC

Mrs. Stip – Room 103

2021/2022 School Year

Keep this information sheet in your notebook/Google Drive so you can refer to it during
the school year.

ATTENDANCE: Good attendance is an important factor in class performance.

Students who are frequently absent or tardy will find the material difficult. If you are
absent from class be sure to get your absence cleared with the Attendance Office. You
need to be in your seat and ready to start class when the tardy bell rings or you will be
marked tardy. I will follow the school tardy policy.

NOTEBOOK: All students will be required to keep a math notebook. You may arrange
your notebook in a manner that makes sense to you. The purpose of the notebook is
for documentation and to keep notes and other pertinent information. I will provide
current grades for you after a test or major assignment, so if you feel I have made an
error, let me know. NO PROOF…NO GRADE CHANGE.

HOMEWORK: Homework will be assigned everyday. Homework is the way you

practice a skill. In order to learn math you must practice the skill through your
homework, not just watching me do the skill. Homework will be due as indicated in
Google Classroom, typically the week after the section has been taught. Late work will
be accepted for a possible grade change at the end of each semester, but only during
the current grading period. Late work will not be updated in AERIES until the end of the
semester and only if makes a difference in your grade. If you turn in work late, it goes
into AERIES late. If you feel you have extenuating circumstances, please e-mail me at
my school email or on hangouts.

IN CLASS ACTIVITIES: Activities can be given at any time. If you are tardy or absent
an alternate assignment may be made up before or after school by appointment.

TESTS: There will be tests at the end of each grading period. If you miss a test it is
your responsibility to make arrangements to make it up. You will have three days from
the day of your return to make-up the missed test. After three days you will receive a
zero unless other arrangements have been made with me.

MATERIALS: You must have all of your materials with you everyday. Materials you will
need are: pencil(s), pen(s), eraser(s), paper, notebooks, several colored pencils, and
your assignment. GRAPHING CALCULATORS ARE REQUIRED, A TI-83 or 84 IS
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! I have a classroom set, so please leave your personal
calculator at home for security reasons.

COMMUNICATION: I can be contacted by phone at 951-358-1725 extension 610103 or

at connie.stip@alvordschools.org, connie.stip@alvordschools.net, Google Classroom,
or Google Hangouts.

TUTORING: If you are in need of extra help, please exhaust all allowable class time
first. I am often available before or after school at school, and on hangouts when I am
home. Please do not contact me after 8 pm.

DISCIPLINE: You are expected to show respect for all persons in the room at all times.
You are also expected to follow all school rules.

GRADE REQUIREMENT : Although the focus of this class is to prepare you for the AP
exam, success in this class will also prepare you for college work. Each college has its
own requirement for AP scores, but most will give 2 semesters credit for a 4 or higher
on the exam. You also will receive an AB sub-score, which may give you 1 semester
credit.

CURRICULUM: In AP Calculus, we will be covering the AP standards. Topics include

finding, evaluating and applying limits, derivative and integrals and their applications,
working with sequences and series, vectors, polar and parametric equations.

ACADEMIC DISHONESTY: Academic integrity is something I take very seriously.

Cheating of any kind will not be accepted or ignored! Anyone caught cheating on any
assignment will be given a zero for the assignment and will be reported to
administration for possible further disciplinary action. A second occurrence of cheating
will result in an F in the class. It should be noted: letting someone copy your work
(homework/quiz/exam) or the use of electronic devices during an exam are just some
examples of cheating. If you are caught letting someone copy, you will receive the
same treatment as the person copying.

PHONE POLICY: Phones are not allowed to be used in class, except in rare situations.
This means while I am teaching, during an activity, tests, and any other time I feel it is
inappropriate to use your phone.

CHROMEBOOKS: Plan to have a charged chromebook daily.

This syllabus is subject to change. You will be notified of any major changes.
