Our Child
I saw a little child, out at play.
His parent said to me, “He is my child…
I bathe his hands and comb his hair
I choose the clothes he should wear
Each day I do the things I should
To prepare him every day for school”
As his teacher then said,
“He is my student…
I teach him how to be gentle and kind
I train and help him live by every rule
And get the best he can from school.”
The parent and I finally said,
“He is ours” and we both smiled.
We both took the hand of the little child,
“He is ours to love and train together
And we thank God for this blessed task forever.”
My Neighbor
My neighbor, my neighbor
Oh! what a friend
People with joy in their heart
And good words to say from the start.
My neighbor, my neighbor
Oh! What a friend
People with nothing but good to say
Smiling when they see you every day.
My neighbor, my neighbor
Oh! What a friend
Life would be so simple and serene
If everyone would try to be kind.
Miriam and Her Baby Brother

One day, the king noticed that there are too many Hebrew people in
the land of Egypt. He decided that all baby boys born should be killed.
A girl named Miriam had a baby brother. She loves her brother so
much that she wanted to help him hide from the king. One day,
Miriam and her mother made a basket for the baby. They keep the
baby in it and hide the basket in the weeds that grow along the river.
Miriam hides in the weeds, too, to make sure that her baby brother is
safe.
Soon, a princess came and saw the basket. When she saw the crying
baby, the princess picked him up and said, “I will adopt him and call
Him Moses.” Miriam saw everything, and she ran to the princess. “I
can get you someone to take care of the baby,” said Miriam. The
princess agreed. Miriam was so happy to finally find her brother a new
safe home.

A Dolphin’s Cry
Friends Gido and Joshua went fishing on Sunday and they came across a great
spot near Lake Gahon. A few hours have past they have not caught any fish
yet. Suddenly, Gido heard a sound.
“Did you hear that?” Gido asked.
“Yes, but what is it?
“Look down! Look down! I need help.” Said a baby dolphin.
The two boys got frantic. “Are you talking to us?” asked Joshua to the dolphin.
“yes. I need your help. I can’t find my mother,” said the baby dolphin.
The boys got near the dolphin. They found it friendly. “Why, where’s your
mother?
I don’t know. There was a loud blast a while ago. Then the next thing I knew,
me and my mother got separated. I swam as fast as I could because I got afraid
of the loud noise around. I saw large fishing boats and men were throwing
dynamites in the water.
“Gido, do you think…?” Joshua asked Gido but he didn’t respond. He just
stared at Gido looking sorry.
Earlier that day, Gido’s father and his team were preparing to go fishing. He
heard his mother and father arguing.
“How many times will I tell you to stop with your illegal fishing. It’s not a
good practice and you could hurt yourself using those dynamites,” said mother.
“This is the only way we could earn money fast. So, don’t bother me with that
nonsense. I’m leaving now.”
Gido wanted to become a fisherman someday that’s why he always likes to go
fishing with his friend, Joshua. Now he might have the answer as to what
happened to the dolphin’s mother.
“Little friend,” said Gido. “Just swim until you find your other friends. I don’t
think you’ll ever find your mother again. I’m sorry.”
“Why, do you know where my mother is?” asked the baby dolphin.
“We can’t tell you. But you’ll be safer if you’ll leave this place now,” said
Joshua.
The dolphin turned its back and swam away. From a distance, Gido and Joshua
heard the sound again.
“Do you think, he’s crying again?” asked Joshua.
“Yes. And I think, he’ll never stop crying until he finds his mother.”

The Lion and the Mouse

Once when a lion, the king of the jungle, was asleep, a little mouse began
running up and down on him. This soon awakened the lion, who placed his
huge paw on the mouse, and opened his big jaws to swallow him.
"Pardon, O King!" cried the little mouse. "Forgive me this time. I shall never
repeat it and I shall never forget your kindness. And who knows, I may be able
to do you a good turn one of these days!”
The lion was so tickled by the idea of the mouse being able to help him that he
lifted his paw and let him go.
Sometime later, a few hunters captured the lion, and tied him to a tree. After
that they went in search of a wagon, to take him to the zoo.
Just then the little mouse happened to pass by. On seeing the lion’s plight, he
ran up to him and gnawed away the ropes that bound him, the king of the
jungle.
"Was I not right?" said the little mouse, very happy to help the lion.
MORAL: Small acts of kindness will be rewarded greatly.

The Goose with the Golden Eggs

Once upon a time, a man and his wife had the good fortune to have a goose
which laid a golden egg every day. Lucky though they were, they soon began
to think they were not getting rich fast enough.
They imagined that if the bird is able to lay golden eggs, its insides must be

made of gold. And they thought that if they could get all that precious metal at
once, they would get mighty rich very soon. So the man and his wife decided to

kill the bird.

However, upon cutting the goose open, they were shocked to find that its

innards were like that of any other goose!

MORAL: THINK BEFORE YOU ACT

The Hare and the Tortoise

There once was a speedy Hare who bragged about how fast he could run. Tired

of hearing him boast, the Tortoise challenged him to a race. All the animals in

the forest gathered to watch.

The Hare ran down the road for a while and then paused to rest. He looked

back at the tortoise and cried out, "How do you expect to win this race when

you are walking along at your slow, slow pace?"

The Hare stretched himself out alongside the road and fell asleep, thinking,

"There is plenty of time to relax."

The Tortoise walked and walked, never ever stopping until he came to the

finish line.

The animals who were watching cheered so loudly for Tortoise that they woke

up the Hare. The Hare stretched, yawned and began to run again, but it was too

late. Tortoise had already crossed the finish line.

Moral: Slow and steady wins the race.

The Ant and the Grasshopper

One summer’s day, in a field, a Grasshopper was hopping about, chirping and
singing to its heart's content. An Ant passed by, bearing along with great effort
an ear of corn he was taking to his nest.
"Why don’t you come and chat with me," asked the Grasshopper, "instead of

toiling your life away?"

"I am helping to store up food for the winter," said the Ant, "and I recommend

you to do the same."

"Why bother about winter?" said the Grasshopper. "We have got plenty of food

at present."

But the Ant went on its way and continued its toil.
When winter came, the Grasshopper found itself dying of hunger, while it saw

the ants distributing, every day, corn and grain from the stores they had

collected in summer.

Then the Grasshopper knew...

MORAL: WORK TODAY AND YOU CAN REAP THE BENEFITS

TOMORROW!

Unhelpful Friends

Bunny rabbit lived in the forest. He had many friends. He was proud of his
friends.

One day Bunny rabbit heard the loud barking of wild dogs. He was very scared.
He decided to ask for help. He quickly went to his friend deer. He said, “Dear
friend, some wild dogs are chasing me. Can you chase them away with your
sharp antlers?”

The deer said, “That is right, I can. But now I am busy. Why don’t you ask bear
for help?”

Bunny rabbit ran to the bear. “My dear friend, you are very strong. Please help
me. Some wild dogs are after me. Please chase them away,” he requested to the
bear.

The bear replied, “I am sorry. I am hungry and tired. I need to find some food.
Please ask the monkey for help.”

Poor Bunny went to the monkey, the elephant, the goat and all his other
friends. Bunny felt sad that nobody was ready to help him.
He understood that he had to think of a way out by himself. He hid under a
bush. He lay very still. The wild dogs did not find the bunny. They went
chasing other animals.

Bunny rabbit learnt that he had to learn to survive by himself, not depending on
his unhelpful friends.

Moral: It is better to rely on yourself than depend on others.

A Visit to the Water Park

A Visit to the Water Park There is a new water park in town. We go there

on the first day of summer. It has pools and water slides. There are sprinklers

too. The slides are scary at first. After the first ride, we love the water slides.
