“Must Haves” Versus “Nice-to-Haves”

Think about your values, skills and interests in life. Using the charts provided, consider
your “must-haves” in a job and life as compared to the “nice-to-haves.” In the second
column explain why those elements are important to you. Consider the examples when
sharing your thinking.

“Must-haves” Why?

High Salary
I want a high salary because my ambition
is to be a wealthy man, and I want to
make my parents' dream come true. I
want to travel all over the world, and buy
sports cars.

Better Working Environment Improving my production levels will be a

great strategy to create a happy work
environment. When I am satisfied, I can
be more effective and well-equipped to
do my work quickly.

Break from Work When I return to the office after a break, I

will be more focused, which will boost my
productivity. Additionally, taking breaks
promotes my mental health and
well-being by relieving some of my stress.
These elements will support my job
satisfaction.

Good Teamwork If I have a team behind me, I will be more

inclined to take calculated risks that result
in innovation. Working as a team
promotes the development of the
individual, boosts job satisfaction, and
lessens stress.
Job Near the House The benefits of working near home will be
numerous. I will use my car considerably
less frequently, save a lot of time
traveling, and help the environment in the
process. Using my bicycle or public transit
more frequently is also excellent for my
health. I'll be considerably better
equipped to work efficiently.

“Nice-to-Have” Why?

Advance Technology I would like to concentrate more on social

connections, cooperation, continuous
improvement, and innovation because of
improved access to data, analysis tools,
and communications. Technology enables
additional tasks, skills, and
decentralization.

Benefits It would be nice to have insurance or

other benefits because I could support my
family more easily financially if I did so.

Working in Morning It's easier to think creatively and will allow

my mind to wander freely in the quiet of
the morning. Additionally, I will be far less
inclined to flee into time-wasting
distractions like social media because my
willpower is at its strongest in the early
morning.

Holiday when I want If I work nonstop without any breaks or

time off I may feel blocked, distracted,
and find it difficult to focus. Vacationers
are less stressed, less likely to develop
heart disease, have better outlooks on
life, and are more driven to accomplish
their goals.

Connection with workmates I need to be able to discuss concerns with

my coworkers and have access to asking
questions of or receiving information from
others around me.
