1. Introduction
®
AFLAS was developed in 1975.
Fluoroelastomer development began in the 1950s with the invention of the first FKM, a copolymer of
vinylidenefluoride-hexafluoropropylene.
®
AFLAS is based on an alternating copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene and propylene.
®
AFLAS gives several distinct improvements over standard fluoroelastomers:
Propylene unit is completely arranged between the neighbouring trafluoroethylene units. This structure
®
provides excellent heat resistance even with a lower fluorine content. It is possible to use Aflas
continuously for three months at 230°C and 30 days at 260°C. It can be used at 300°C for a short
time.

SPECIAL NOTE: This information is to the best of our knowledge accurate to the date indicated. However, PPE make no
warranty, expressed or implied, that parts manufactured from this material will perform satisfactorily in the customer's
application. It is the customer's responsibility to evaluate parts prior to use, especially in applications where their failure may
result in injury and/or damage. It should also be noted that all elastomeric parts have a finite life, therefore a regular program
of inspection and replacement is strongly recommended.
